I have also bought a unit in the development. I had asked Robert Cartade if he had any suggestions and he mentioned that his daughter in-law is a professional interior designer and is already doing two of the villas as well as possibly mine. Have had a few conversations with her and so far I have been very impressed. She got exactly what I was trying to achieve. She is sourcing most of the furniture from Miami and most of the appliances locally. Even though i have to pay her fee, i think it will actually save me money as she can get trade prices. Also, having someone take care of everything for me is well worth it as i simply do not have the time or expertise. I assume also that if she is doing multiple units, there will be savings on the shipments as she can bulk them together. Her e-mail is adriana@prado-designs.com. On the taxes, unfortunately, i have not found any way around it and it seems to be around 40% - 50% of the purchase price once you add up all the different taxes (GCT, stamp, duty, etc). I did a lot of research on finding furniture in Jamaica and came to the realization that there simply was not much choice for my style and the prices for the stuff that was not made there worked out to the same as buying it abroad and paying the import tax. Anyway, hope that helps.
