Re: Route Taxi Pricing
yep just got back and that is what is was for an adult in a red plate route taxi with their number on their vehicle for one leg of the route.
I know you didn't ask but I wanted to share some recent route taxi observations:
While I was there in Octoboer for a month a few times route drivers gave me grief and tried to say I should pay more because I am a tourist but I firmly told them I knew the runnings and if there was a problem let me out and I will get another route taxi - they never stopped and turned me out.
My advice is to confirm "route taxi" when you get in and have your $100JD in your hand so there is no question on price (I never had to do this in past years but lately it seems necessary). I know there is stress for these hard working drivers trying to make it. I was at Sunshine Plaza with my groceries one day and I was by the road pointing to West End and a driver came from West End, saw me and beeped. I shook my head no and kept pointing West End - he turned around at the plaza and quickly came round. I got in and he wanted EXTRA$$ because he had to turn around. I politely told him I declined his ride and it was him who turned around on his own, plus the route is $100J regardless. he skrewed up his face and I told him it was not my intention to make him angry - he said Mi nah angry and he chilled out. I just mention this to help newbies - as long as you just follow the simple system you will be fine. I use charter taxis sometimes when I need a driver to take me several places or wait for me but for everyday I am grateful for the route taxi system.
Also my last visit it seemed like the drivers were so desperate for passengers that it was even more competetive than normal which got tense sometimes between drivers assertively trying to get my business and not leaving when I say no I am just gonna wait for a route taxi. No problem. In Jamaica I walk strong and respectful always and I have no troubles.
