Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!

Thursday Jan, 26th arrived fairly early considering that the Rum and Ting, and Red Stripes had flowed so freely and plentiful the previous night, and the little man in my head with the really big SLEDGHAMMER was actually easily looked after by a couple extra strength Advil and a couple ice cold Wata's! Thank god I had remembered to throw a few in the fridge the night before, cause man did that Jerk Pizza Dry out my mouth (had nothing to do with the rum and Red Stripe). After the initial self administered first aid, IO set out on making the regular morning fare a big pot of coffee and the jug of Rum Cream!!! Bacon, Eggs, and toast to follow but have to have the morning coffee first, right? Mental note to self, must take picture of breakfast setup cause the early light of Negril and the beautiful view of Caribbean sea with booby cay off to the side really is something to marvel at, especially when shared with a great cup of Blue Mountain and Rum Cream! We easily kill the pot of coffee and scarf down a hearty breakfast and pack up a backpack with some staples for today's beach-walk! couple Bottles of Ting, couple of water, a couple ice cold Red stripes for the drink coozies and a couple in the back pack in reserve, flip flops, Cash, and we are off! Now the last couple days my wife kept re living the inital shock she had felt in walking through Hedo the first time and had vowed that she would be fine this time and to her credit she was much better, I actually had feeling in my hand by the time we had made it through, something I cannot say the first time!! . That morning was fairly uneventful and we really didn't make it that far, we spent about an hour wandering through boardwalk village looking at all the little shops, checking things out buying a few nick-nacs here and there but really just blowing the morning window shopping, and then hitting a couple little stalls on the beach! Lunch was needed early this day as we seemed really kinda shaky and lost of energy again I insist it musta been something we ate . We stopped at Our Pastime and grabbed a huge lunch that finally made us feel a bit better!!

After this we walked a few miles down the beach, stopping here and there a grabbing a beer or a water, not really accomplishing very much of anything all we did was take in the sights and sounds of Negril and went with the flow! I really don't even have much for pictures from this afternoon, but I remember it being a nice relaxing chill day walking the beach!

I am not even 100% sure where we called it quits as my memory is a little hazy, again probably cause of the pizza last night, right?????LOL! After the walk we wandered out to the road, caught a cab and headed back to PV to grab an hour or so of RandR before we grabbed the sunset at the rock-pools then headed to Kuyaba for a nice dinner!

On this evening my Hunnie and I decided we should bring down a little something to share with the group, we settled on mixing up a couple big jugs of pre-mixed Good Ol Canadian Caesars!!!! Now for those of you American friends who have not had the opportunity to partake in this great Canadian CLASSIC cocktail it's kinda like a Bloody Mary but with a Tomato/Clam cocktail in place of the regular Tomato juice a must is to add a extra Worcestershire Sauce to make it really really tangy though. These were a hit to the fellow Canadian's and our new American friends that we had met at PV, as well the Sunset was gorgeous as always!!! Below I have a few pictures from the patio and then down by the rock pools!!

After Sunset we headed to Kuyaba for dinner, Not the outright beautiful views you get at Ivan's but a really unique open air dining experience and if you arrive before sunset as we hadn't, you will still be treated to a nice sunset, just as anywhere else along Long Bay! The food was OUTSTANDING and the restaurant had great ambiance, so nice that we have decided to stay there for 2 nights on our upcoming reach, an anniversary trip of sorts in the honeymoon suite to see what its like!If any of you have stayed in this suite please let me know what you thought!! There really was not too much else to say about this evening as we were planning on laying low and trying to get a really good night sleep, we knew tomorrow would be a really long day! We were headed to the Jamaican Jazz and Blues Festival and didn't know what to expect. More on that later though! For dinner I had the Grilled Lobster and Shellie had Lobster Therm adore and both dishes were off the charts awesome!!!

After the meal we headed home to relax on the patio and just take in the sounds of the water, the tree frogs and enjoy. I think we were in bed by about 11-12 o'clock that night and it still wasn't enough time to sleep!!! We had really not been going that hard, but in attempt to take in as much as possible I think we were both almost in a state of sensory overload as we tried to take everything in and there is so much to do and see and do. The funny thing after we had finished a week in Negril, I was sad cause there was sooooooooo much more that I had wanted to see that I thought I had missed, is that always how you feel when leaving Negril???

Great report, beautiful pictures (the sunset shots are fantastic), the food looks to die for and yes that is always how you feel when you leave Jamaica! It's been 7 years since we have been on the rock and I can't wait to be back. These trip reports sure do help though

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!

So, I guess I better get back at this! I have 2.5 more days to go and if I don't get started I am afraid it will grind to a permanent halt so here it goes!

Friday morning we wake up and start the morning right again, RUM cream and Coffee!!! And some toast and peanut butter, we elect for a light breakfast cause we figure we will grab a quick bite at the Bar at Boardwalk Village before we leave for the concert. We had walked past it a couple times and ridden bikes past a couple times and thought it would be worthwhile checking out. If for no other reason than it was close and if the food is decent a good place to grab some grub on the run we would file it away in memory for the future! We rode our bikes over to BV and locked up, wandered through all the little shops for an hour or so, then grabbed a Red Strip and ordered up some appetizers. The food arrived fairly quickly and was decent enough to eat, although it was on the pricier side of things for what you got. The beer was ICE cold and the deck of the bar has a really nice view of long bay and would be a great spot to take in a sunset!! I don't have any pictures of it on this computer so I will add them later for all you picture loving folk .

After our short break we headed back to PV to hit the beach for a few hours, and a swim, our ride was to pick us up at 1:30 or so and we had some time to burn!! My wife and I quickly changed and headed for the beach, Beers, Loungers, I phone and X-mini speaker, snorkel set's, beach towels, books all accounted for NOW off to the beach! Now I am not one to sit around so I get fidgety fairly quickly and decide to head out for a swim and a snorkel for a half hour or 45 minutes. It was excellent!! I get back to the beach after my swim and am toweling off and about to grab a seat when my wife says, Hey, did you hear that? Well I musta been deaf or was too involved in the music cause i didn't hear a thing!!! I said what you talking about? She replies, did you hear someone holler for help??? No, I exclaim you must be hearing things!!! 5-10 Seconds later, there it is again!!!! HEEEELLLLPPPP!!! Oh Sh!T I say and take off running in the direction of the noise. As I arrive at the rock pool I realize there is Two fella's dragging another fella towards shore and they are struggling, I take a quick second to survey the situation to make sure I am not jumping onto a coral head and jump in and start swimming out to them. They are still about 50-70 yards of shore and one of them is having trouble keeping his own head above water much less the fella in distress! I pull him away and send him to shore on his own and proceed to help get the 3rd man to shore, he is a dead weight and appears to be unconscious. After about 50 feet I can touch bottom so it makes it easier to pull him in, Thank goodness!!! Now the only worry is to make sure that I don't step on a sea urchin!!! I already have a massive pain in my right heel and am not really sure why, the adrenaline rush is coming to an end now that we have the guy close enough to shore that we are not struggling nearly as much! A crowd has gathered around and someone goes off to call 119, as we get him back to shore we are trying to figure out a way to get a 6 foot plus, 200 Lb plus man outta the water. He is starting to come around and is fighting us a little cause he is scared, he doesn't know what has happened to him and is having major difficulties speaking and he is bleeding badly from the mouth! We get him calmed down, and decide we are going to use a chaise lounge to haul him out. This works good and we get him out of the sea with minimal struggles, I took off to our condo to grab a rag and some water, as well as try and find some aspirin in case it was a stroke (turns out there is a previous stroke he had recovered from a few years earlier). We find an aspirin, and give him a little water to wash it down and clean him up a bit. In no time the ambulance arrives and takes him away, at the conclusion of the excitement I realize I have a 6-10 Sea Urchin quills broke off in the heel of my right foot and its killing me! Off to the condo I go to find whatever I can to get them out!! I find a really bad pair of tweezers, a pair of nail clippers and a small pair of scissors. As well a first aid kit that has been picked over but has a few supplies, after about 1.5 hours painfully digging at my heel I get all but 2 out and find some polysporin in our travel kit to put on it and some gauze to put on the heel. I pillage what is left of the first aid kit to make a crude bandage.

About this time we realize we should get our @sses in gear and get ready, we are to be picked up in about 30 minutes!!! Latoya from Joe Cool Taxi picks us up right on time and we are OFF, 2 quick stops to make on the way. We grab a couple of patties and a couple drinks at the gas station, and hit a cambio in Mobay to change some money and we are on the road to the Cricket stadium in Trelawny. After about a 2 hour road trip we arrive and the place is ALREADY a MADHOUSE!!!! I cannot remember all the performers that night but the ones I can remember were as follows. Julie Black, Tami and Tenisha Chynn, Richie Stephens and Gentleman, Nicole Henry, and of course Celine Dion. All the performers were excellent and it was a really cool experience. I will give a little more of a rundown later when time permits but for now here are a couple pictures from around the venue and the performers. I will post some more when I get on my laptop that has them all on it!! Hope you enjoy!!! I will add, I am NOT a Celine Dion fan, but Man does that girl have a voice, and all the Jamaicans LOVED her at times it was so loud with hollers, screams and people shouting out the words that you couldn't hear her!!!!

TV report about Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival (THE TRAFFIC WAS CRAZY!!!!!)

    Start of concert.

However the whole time at the concert we kept wondering if our new friend we had met at the sunset a few night earlier was okay, and what it was that caused him to become distressed earlier today in the sea!
