Hello fellow boardies. Can someone tell me where the closest cambio would be to Roots Bamboo where I could turn my American $'s into Jamaican. I am assuming that the best rate is found there?

If you are worried about something, do something about it. If there is nothing you can do, why worry!
There's one on the beach road, in front of Bourban Beach( actually you enter in in the same road entrance) , across from Times Square mall.Check your watch, their hrs are Jamaican( sometimes open at 10am) or when they get there! Close at 4 or 5pm Mon- Sat. get their hrs and days when you first go there, all subject to change!
Thanks Lulu and Al

Hey Stoner, why are you using US dollars? You can just as easily take CDN ones (I see you are from Winnipeg) and have them exchanged. I use the Cambio at Burbon Beach a lot. For slightly better rates you can go to the one next door to the HiLo.

Hey SLP - Besides being an Ottawa Person too , I am heading down in about a month and wondered (short of checking the NCB website each day ) if it was not worth losing $1.25 CAN at todays rate to get the US $$ since I thought they usually gave a better rate if the 2 correncies were almost exactly at par , as they have been lately..Just an opinion that I will throw open to the floor..Thanks
every time u exchange u pay. keep it simple and cheaper-ca$-ja$
I just checked the XE site and today's rate for US is J 90.74 - CDN is J 91.0267. Now we all know that these are not the rates we get but they are close. For the inconvenience of a double exchange I don't find it worth it. That being said, I do use US for my taxi to Negril since the driver prefers them.
Here's a link for you:

If the beach Cambio is not open; you can check the chinaman at one of the souvenir shops across the street at Times square. He gives the same exchange.
Just whatever you do DO NOT let those guys outside the cambio (downtown) sway you with their great exchange rates. You will get the five finger discount.
your precious time in Negril is valuable also........dont bother runnin round to save a dime or a quarter..........
use that time for enjoying Jamaica........

IMHO,
Just go to an ATM once with a driver you trust. Get as much JA as you need for the visit. There is no better exchange rate but you may pay a fee to your bank or the ATM. Either way it's as good as you'll get.
I go to one that is very little used and never have to wait or deal with anyone hanging out.
Put it in your room safe and be your own cambio. If you have any left over(LOL) save it for next time..
