    Trip Report Day 1, June 3, 2011

So, here is our report on 10 days in Negril, day-by-day. I will follow with a hotel review recap, general review recap and money spent recap! Hope you folks enjoy...

Worked a 1/2 day and put the yellow lab on the farm for 10 days of doggie frolic. Depart St. Louis after an expensive round of beers and a single sandwich ($35!!) Flight left on time with only about 2/3 to 3/4 capacity. Rum and diet cokes in transit. Arrived at 6:20pm. Arrival was easy, immigrations smooth and customs merely a wave. Went to meet Alfred and immediately went through the wrong door(charter bus's) THEN found the correct door and there was Alfred! And, it was now raining. Not a gentle rain. Not a misty rain. A full-on tropical torrential drencher. No wind, mind you. Just rain. Buckets and buckets of it. This was a portent of things to come. We told Alfred it was cool to hang a little until it let up enough for him to see where he parked his van! Grabbed some Red Stripe and Ting and we were on the road. Fits of torrential rain then sprinkles then torrents followed us all the way to Negril. Stopped at Biggas for some chicken, but all he had left was fish and pork. Probably should have had the pork, but was dying for chicken. So, just grabbed another Red Stripe and hit the road for Coco la Palm. Arrived in a downpour, which was to be the norm for the next 6 days! No kidding!! Room was in order, clean and larger than expected with adequate storage, cold refrigerator and ice cold a/c. Did I mention the ice cold a/c? The room had a nice little ground floor patio, but owing to the constant rain, we never got to use it. Never in 4 days! Threw some things in the closet and off to Best in the West jerk stand, directly accross the street. Good jerk conch and very good jerk chicken. Prices seemed high. Coco's beach bar had the chicken for less and was good too. Best is a funky little roadside place that has a constant stream of characters coming and going. If you like funky people watching, this place may appeal to you! My friend Bim came down from the hills to say high and catch up on our families. Finally the day caught up with us around 1030..so back over to the room with a full belly and time for bed. Hmmm....no Wi-Fi in the room...thought the website said Wi-Fi in the room....listen to that rain come down.....

Awesome RR! Thanks for this trip report! It's always great to see another one about Coco too It's such a great hotel!
I'm sorry to hear about the constant rain, I hope you had some sun inbetween the showers
I agree that "Best in the West" has amazing jerk chicken and some of the best people-watching. I could just chill there all day meeting the people that come and go.
    Great start! Want more!
    Carpe Diem
