Riu Palace Tropical Bay - water?

    Hi all!

Having been to Jamaica multiple times - but never at this resort - I'm curious as to whether the tap water there is safe to drink??

Every other resort I've been to they always say the water is just fine.

    Thanks and cheer!

    TandJ,

First of all, welcome to the Negril.com Negril Message Board! Greetings!

Tap water is perfectly fine to drink in Jamaica, Negril especially. The water treatment plant is one of the most modern in the Caribbean, and the tap water quality is higher than in many North American cities where the systems can be a century old.

Yep. Water tastes better in Negril from the tap, than Philly tap. I drink the Philly tap daily. (might be why I have a third nipple?)

    Well thanks everyone!

I suppose I should have mentioned the reason for my post - on tripadvisor, there is a picture from a resort guide there that says the tap water is not drinkable.

Seems strange to me - why would they have that if the water IS drinkable?

Good question. Maybe certain water sources are not drinkable, but tap water? Makes no sense. I know where I live, our property is irrigated w/ recycled water from the ponds in the community. Tap water... nonsense unless they were having some sort of issue.

Negril tap water is better than Tampa tap water too.

Yes it is drinkable however in the rooms there's like a guide book and it says not to drink the tap at RIU trop.

The RIU guidebook is the same language at most all coastal properties it is the same guidebook as Club, Ocho, Mo Bay, the Mexican properties, and Costa Rica. I drank it just fine not too mention if you are worried about drinking it feel safe in the fact that included in your rate is free bottled water which is kept stocked and in liter bottles shipped in.
The bad reviews against either of the RIU properties stem more from people angry they didn't do their homework and have realistic expectations.

TandJ, when we 1st stayed there in 04, I saw the RIU writing to not drink the tap water... I never did...
Jamaica may have great water, but when the hotel you are staying at says don't drink ours...Enough said,lol...
The RIU always had plenty of bottled water...

So.... It's pretty much your choice, but why drink the tap if the bottled is plentiful, lol?

Certainly not because there are many places in Jamaica where you CAN drink the water...

    Happy Travels..
