hey FredStripe it happened just outside of Margaritaville , another time on my honeymoon in 1990 my wife and i were surrounded by two women who just came out of nowhere started to give us a aloe rub down it was weird but sure did take the sunburn away, and again on our last trip it happened again, it was deja vu brought us back to 1990, except this time she said to me I could get a Jamaican Special if I left my wife and went in the back... ah no thank you, i love the higgers dont get me wrong it adds to our trip every time!

I found the sharks to be much worse around the Grand Pineapple. They were relentless. Roll Tide.

Actually enjoy them very much unless they try to touch me, put something in my hand or prevent me from walking on.

I agree and the beach would not be nearly as much fun without most of them.

Yesterday we walked all the way from CSA to the traffic circle. Went to the Lime store and Valumaster and took care of all the errands we needed to do.

We were approached several times but everyone was friendly, jovial, and.....well, just downright pleasant! We did buy jelly coconuts about half way. That guy was definitely in the right spot, because we really needed something like that when we happened upon him.

I don't know if it was because we chose to walk the whole thing on the road, or that we have a little experience now with the Negril "sales experience", but that walk we took yesterday was one of the most fun trips we've had walking down that way. It's funny that all we did was go to the Lime store to get a SIM card and then hit up Valuemaster for some basics. LOL!

So, long story short: The higglers situation doesn't seem to be "out of control" or " getting worse" to us. In fact yesterday, contrary to recent reports i have read, it seemed like it has gotten better.

Of course this was only ONE walk down the beach road. YMMV.

I'm with you!!! Truly, I enjoy walking about in Negril. Every walk to the store is an adventure in itself!! Heading into town from the cliffs, then shopping in town....is generally pure joy! There may be a few that can be frustrating...but all in all....I find the Jamaican culture itself to be warm and hospitable. A genuine smile can open many doors!

    Re: Higglers

I truely enjoy my walks up and back on the beach and in the two weeks last year only met one vendor who wouldn't take no for an answer. When it escalated to name calling because I turned my back on him to walk away and avoid the conflict I was rescued by the security lady at Rooms, the security guy from Roots Bamboo, the Rastas by Sunnyside and the Tourist Police. I love the vendors and have always enjoyed visiting and speaking with them and have never felt unsafe. I don't buy much but like to look and once they learn your name and you theirs it is a wonderful feeling. So looking forward to seeing my friends again......
