Point to some people sunbathing and say "No thanks but I think they were looking for some" then sit back and watch the exchange.

LoL
Just watch out for the ones that ask you to hold their machete while they run and get the sandwich fixings for you!![]()
They're one of the things I enjoy about the beach! Can't wait to see Patrick for my lobster lunch or the patty guy.... Mort, tagging along with you while you walked the beach would be a hoot!!!
ive grown to enjoy most of the interactions. most of the higglers are just doing the old school style of selling. they got to talk the product up themselves and have a certain lyrical style in which they promote their items. its an art form and some are good at it and some others less so. I love listening to Jamaican radio because they still use jingles in their advertising instead of just playing a popular song like they do in the states. with that said ive found the very quickest way to get rid of someone trying to sell you drugs that you dont want is to just say that you got to pee in a cup back home. the seller is usually gone in under 30 seconds :P

Negril beach is nothing compared to the beach & craft markets in Ghana...actually that's where I got all my bartering skills from
There's a difference between the vendors and the higglers, at least to me. I actually look forward to seeing the vendors, like Neville and his patties, Dean and his jerk pork, the baked goods guy, Ricky the juice guy, etc...
What I don't look forward to, but don't mind too terribly, are the higglers trying to sell dope aggressively or "jet ski" salesmen that won't take "no" for an answer. I just say "Got everything I need, brother. Respect." and just keep on walking...

Yea for this thread...I knew I was not alone in enjoying the higgling experience.... Great thread!!!!
Happy Travels,
Skb...
The ones that get under my skin are the drug pushers. They are a pain in the arse. The ones selling the jewelery and junk I just pay no attention to. I have bought all the wooden birds and necklaces that I need.
Meagan I agree with you, as a professional sales person I so enjoy the "process"(you go through. I use it as a study in how I work!
