    Cambio Exchange Rate

Can anyone who has recently returned from Negril let me know what the exchange rate was locally. My local bank only wants to give me 80-1, whereas a national currency exchange shows the current rate at 91-1. Thanks in advance.

Click on "home" just below the Negril.com logo on top of this page. There is a handy little window in the lower right hand corner of the home page with a converter.

80-1 was the worst I got last week doing a conversion on a dinner bill at a small roadside stand. Most places were doing 85-1 if I didnt have enough JMD to cover the bill. You can definitely do better than your local bank.

Here's a widget that is as close as it gets.

I've checked it in the morning and gone to the ATM and it's right on the button except for fees if you have any

So would most of you bring cash to exchange, or take the transaction fee hit on your debit card?

After last years beating up of the J"s while in Jamaica, This year where taking mostly travelers checks to cash in for J's. Also US dollars in 5,10 & 20's. When you buy something figure out which is best J's or US dollars. My debit card it is for SOS only way to many fees . Limo Mon Soon Come

I brought about 300 down, and then did debit card after that. I think the Intl Charge is $4 on top of the ATM fee which was anywhere from 2-3 dollars.

If you withdrawal in JA you're really not ahead or behind if you take out 10,000 JA at a time given the Cambio fee (which is, they give you an exchange slightly lower than the actual rate)

The bank down there is Scotia Bank. For some reason, my ATM card did not get along with Scotia, so I had to go to a different ATM, but some banks have agreements waiving the intl Fees. I would research
