When playing dominoes with my Jamaican friends, all refer to ones as esses (S's).
Why are ones called S's?
What is the origin / derivation / etymology?
This has never been explained to my satisfaction and I need to know!

Is it possible they are calling them Aces and it comes across esses in translation?
