    Ochi question

I was just on the Ochi board, but didn't see what I was looking for. My boss is planning on surprising his wife for their 25th annivesary with a trip to Jamaica. They are planning on going all inclusive, and his wife isn't really big into water stuff but he is. They are looking at the couples resorts, both in Negril and Ocho Rios and was wondereing what there is to do off property on that side of the island?

Really you did an excursion that way. Wow geez I hate that drive,I used to slpit my trips 1 week in each local but haven't in about a year or so. I keep swearing i am going to fly between on one of the props or a heli or something but just haven't won the lottery yet so I stay on whichever side my friend is working now and don't venture between.
I personally would say there are a lot more excursions to do out of Ochi ( because of the ship port I think) than Negril but Negril you can have a whole new adventure by walking 20 feet down the beach every couple hours so it is a day of excursions in itself.

The RIU in Ochi is a lot nicer than Negril, with a better beach and lots of water excursions right off there own beach a nice location for couples.

Jamaica as an island is awesome and Ochi and Negril are nothing at all alike but you can get the best of both worlds in one island. Negril is more for the wanderer where you find or make your own party, where as Ochi is more structured take an organized tour off your resort kind of thing not really a take to the roads for a day on foot. Ochi I think is best for first time travelers because I do not think the constant hustle occurs there or atleast I have never seen it nearly what Negril has, others feel differently than myself on this. So once someone gets a love for the island by staying inside their resort and leaving in organized activities you then work them over to Negril where it is a make your own vacay and their love for the land over shadows some of the grief of the hustle.

Thanks for the advice/suggestions! We have been staying in Negril for the last 14 years, and he's looking at both the Couples properties and the Sandals resort there too. He was wanting information on Ochi area and I haven't a clue. Maybe one of these days I'll get over my sand gravity and make it to the north coast! :-)

    Re: Ochi question

We went to Ochi in June and I much prefer Negril. (as do my husband & 2 sons) We all wanted to take a day trip to Negril, but it didn't work out.

Anyway, if you are ok taking tours and paying tour prices then there would be a lot to do in Ochi.

We prefer just doing our own thing and walking and seeing local places, and for that, I would recommend Negril. I think being off resort in Negril is much better than Ochi. We prefer to stay non-AI. When we bring the boys back it'll definitely be to Negril.

Stayed at Couples Ocho Rios 12 years ago and it was excellent. Stayed at Couples Swept Away and Couples Negril as well. Swept Away in Negril was my favorite of the three, but this was back in the 90's.

If your Boss is a golfer, he might prefer Sandals Grand Riviera. I haven't been, but several Golfers recommend the resort.

    Enjoy,
