There's an old yiddish saying that goes "If my grandmother had balls she'd be my grandfather". But I'll play -
First, I've always said if I won any lottery of any sort I'd donate a good part of it. Many of the benefactors would be organizations near and dear to me in Negril but not exclusively - there's lots of people and places that need help. I'd also gift a good part to my friends and family - my god-kids in particular.

Next, I'd probably finally buy something on the West End. But I'd also buy a Penthouse in NYC, a condo in San Francisco and a place in Europe somewhere, probably France.

Then I'd spend my life bopping between my home in Bodega and all those places.

    That's what I'd do

Well, with a hundred million, I could donate half and still be rich, so would take 50 million and build a hospital for Negril.

First off, I think Uncle Sam would take at least 50% if not more, of that $$. With the remaining say 40 million (still a lot of money!), I would buy homes for my 2 sons & my daughter in law (& grandson)....do total renovations on the property I own, hire as many people as I could to give them work, give money to anyone I felt really deserved it, including all the organizations in Jamaica that are struggling & understaffed, take a trip around the island to visit all the places I've never seen, travel the world, to places like Thailand, Bali, Africa & India & buy all the lovely hand-crafted items that are available there & probably create a lovely boutique in Jamaica with those items.

I would be extremely discreet about letting ANYONE know that I won and probably do things in a very low key way.

I would definately stay at Geejam and some of the high end resorts on the island, just to experience the luxury.

Simple, if I won $100 Million.....

Book several properties on the cliffs (starting with Seastar Inn). Charter flights from several cities (east coast, west coast, canada, UK etc...) invite all dedicated beach boardies for a free week on the Cliffs including airfare!!. All dedicated cliff boardies would be invited as well....

I would donate money for job training and job creation.

After that, I would make sure that I have LTU Chicken Lola at least twice a week for dinner, just about any dish from Seastar Inn or Canoe the remaing dinners. I would make what ever deal is necessary to insure that there is a "Green Flash Sunset" every night!!

Oh the list goes on and on......

    Enjoy,

I'd consult a financial planner and also research on my own how to keep the money growing.
I'd make sure my family is provided for.
I'd set up a small off-the-grid block house with a sea view. House would be entirely solar and wind powered with a nice garden and perhaps a couple of guest cottages free to my friends for vacation stays.
I'd buy a beat up white toyota.
Then I'd set up a foundation and entertain grant proposals for Jamaica friendly endeavors that are sustainable and will serve the needs of the people.

Now where did I put that lottery ticket?

hmmmmmmmm,,,, have followed a lot of folks on here for years and trust all impliciately but,, first thing is nobody is going to know when I win that 100 million. There are ways to claim the prize w/o flashing your name to the world.

You see I enjoy the freedom to move about w/ annonimitey. I love sitting on a wall with little notice, I love observing people, fauna, wildlife w/o being a focal point. I would be leery of the motivations of many if I was known as the "lottery winner". Same dockers, same guayabas, same small resorts, same rental jeep just a whole lot more time in country.

That said there are many ways for an annoynomous doner to finance a school in Logwood, a library in Askenish, a playground in Cave Spring. I think it would be fun as being annoynomous to observe how the local community manages or mis-manages their windfall.

But most of all the money would buy time. We had Sammy Hagar in a show a few years back. Last show on his tour. After we got through with all the interviews and the programming guys had run off to get their content on air I asked Sammy "man it's the end of a grueling tour, what do you do next" and he said,,,,, "tommorrow night I'll go on Lettermen and shave my hair for Lockes of Love and 15K people across the nation will join me, then I'll slip down to Cabo and get me 5 pairs of dockers and 5 camp shirts. And each morning when I get up I'll decide if I want to fish or golf or slip down to the Cabo Wabo and gig. And when my dockers and camp shirts get thread bare and my hair gets all long and tangeled I'll know it's time to go back to work". Hmmmmmmm,,,,, I measure my time in hour appointments which are interrupted by phone calls which turns hours into 15 minute blocks. Even in Negril my time is measured in days till the flight home. That type of money would allow me to do away with the 4th dimension of time which stabilizes and bores the world by making everything have to fit into a very specific point in space. That's right I want to measure in how long it takes to thread bare 5 pairs of dockers.
I have won many awards in a lifetime of competition and service. But the highest was offered without plaque or fanfare on a hilltop in post Ivan Jamaica. A true Rasta and a dear friend observed "Chet you are like a father of men, you see need and fulfill that need without being asked". Let us be travelers and not tourist.
