Can a US citizen live in Jamaica?

On our last reach we met a very nice couple that live behind the Harley Davidson shop. They say once every 6 months they fly to Miami for the night and that is sufficient to allow them to stay in Negril. Is this possible? Does this sound accurate?

Not that easy-if your not a resident you can stay max 90 days in a 1 year period. you have to go to Mobay or King and file and extension and pay a fee to stay another 90 days (ie 180 days + 6 month)You are not guaranteed an extension-even if you own a home, etc..

I lived there for 10 months ... had to get a visa from the Jamaican consulate before-hand, wasn't difficult but was tedious - required documentation of my purpose. That allowed me to stay on a 'legal alien' status ... Also had to get a Jamaican driver's license while there, since my license was stolen, and there were no Secretary of State offices nearby

No worries man, you can apply for Permanent Residency when you retire. PICA is the branch of the Jamaican government you would need to contact. Here is a link to their direct page:

While this was once true (the overnight flight to Miami) - this is no longer the case.
