Beach erosion at Country Country

Looking at the pictures from the 50's and from recent years, I've always wondered why there are so few palm trees left. Anyone have any insight? Was it done for safety from falling coconuts(seems unlikely)?

my first trip to tree house was in the early eighties. i remember walking from the building at the end of the driveway, there were many trees before the beach. i remember sitting under those trees for shade. also remember that boat was always being out of the water for repairs! LOL! THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
