    Re: Beach Club

We would like to know the condition of the timeshare units. We have been owners for 20 years and know that the condition on the units have really went downhill. We were there a combo of Mar/April/May 2012. Our balcony door wouldn't close and didn't have a lock. No proper amount of dishes, cutlery. Wouldn't feed my dog out of the pots and pans. Microwave didn't work nor toaster. Things were really, really bad. We had other owners asking if we had any kitchen supplies that we could spare.

We would appreciate if any timeshare owners could update us on this as we are to head to Ja in April.

As a TS owner since 1987 & knowing several other owners, the only feedback I can give is that the condition of your TS unit depends on the unit & many other factors. When I'm in Negril I'm in my TS unit for 5-7 weeks. I spend the first few days getting things done that need to be fixed. Although it'd be great if they had a check list & made sure all is great for each "new" stay, reality is - especially w/ the cutback on staff hours - this doesn't happen. I have to let them know what light bulbs don't work, what dishware or cutlery I might need, etc. It all gets attended to quickly. I can't understand why a guest would stay in a room w/ burned out bulbs & never let anyone know. That's just me. I'm not super picky but my TS is my home for weeks & I like it working. If I have issues w/ the fridge or microwave (has happened), I report it & it gets switched out. It's been a while but have had AC issues in the past... fixed ASAP. My stay in June-July it was mainly kitchen misc. My guess is the person who gets my condo after me is very happy because I make sure everything needed is there & in working order. Other guests seem to not think to do the same, maybe because they don't stay as long so let things slide. If the staff doesn't know what needs to be done, they can't remedy the situation. That takes me back to the list that should be checked before each new stay :-) I've never been made to feel like I'm a PIA for my requests. If anything, they are thankful that I let them know what needs to be fixed. I've had numerous discussions over the years w/ the office staff about this.

True, it's been many years since most units had new furnishings or even a coat of paint but what I have in my condo is fine. I've never had an issue w/ balcony sliders not locking. I start my list, if necessary, when I arrive & have it to the office the next day. If I discover more "issues", I start a new list & drop that off. Again, many things I find are things that only someone staying in the room would notice. Others might overlook & never report them (ex: running water in toilet). I don't. Speak up because, unless the folks in your room before you did, you you'll probably have issues. The staff has always been gracious & accomodating. Maybe it's because I go in w/ the attitude that these are things that need to be done, not complaining that they haven't been done already. I hope that makes sense. I've always been told I never complain. I guess I don't because my approach is that the staff is not aware of what issues there might be in the room & I'm just informing them so they can address them. I might complain to others - lol - but I simply notify the staff.

I visited my girlfriend who was staying in a five star condo at NBCC this past week. Never knew such niceness was there. However everything else is rotting with the infrastructure.

Jean does a great job of keeping her units up to date. Can you give specific examples of the infrastructure issues? Pool lights falling out? Jacuzzi not working? Issues w/ stairs or walkways, etc? I have a friend going down in a couple of weeks. I know there are issues w/ the stairs in E block (could use some repair work). Wondering what your observations were. Thanks.

I stayed there not too long ago. I stayed in a Condo rented out by Jean. It was a good deal. Overall the place is good but needs alot of improvement. The cats are everywhere but they are very shy. I do have many pictures of them. The stairwells are beginning to rot. The jacuzzi didnt work and the pool was clean, no problem there. To me it is very open and you can go and come as you please.

Thank you. I'll have to check that out my next trip. The property is over 30 years old & on the beach so that is understandable. I live in a condo community built in the early 1980s &, due to the rain & humidity here in FL, we're constantly repairing/replacing all the exterior wood which includes balconies & fences/gates. I sign the checks so I know what work is being done :-)

Don't get me wrong I've been a loyal customer of Jean for years and the ONLY reason I've switched to somewhere new is because she was sold out over the Christmas/New Year holiday...otherwise I would still be going there....and I'm sure I'll go back.

That's good background info to have. I, too, will keep going until the place crumbles into the sand. There are so many positives to the NBCC & the TS units, it's hard to not keep going there. When I go during my non-TS time, I always stay w/ Jean. People who haven't stayed there can throw all the jabs they want at the property. It won't change my plans for future trips to Negril. It is truly a gem & unique property. Non-working jacuzzi doesn't bother me since I don't use it (ditto for the one here where I live). I'm careful walking up the stairs, etc. Those who stay away are missing out. It's just sad to see it slowly run down due to the actions of one person.
