My wife and I will be going back to JA in Feb for our 5th trip to the island. One of the things we are really looking forward to is the fanstastic food we will be able to partake in. I'm not sure what kind of "great food" your looking for but if you can't find it in JA your not "looking" very hard. As far as the comment about drinking and smoking I am really not sure what that has to do with liking "good food" or anything else for that matter. Respect

Sounds like you might be on the wrong board. Impossible not to have fun in Negril unless you go in with a bad taste in your mouth from the start. If you like ST Expensive so much why don't you peddle your ass off that way next trip. Leave the good vibes for people who know how to have fun. BAD FOOD I want to punch you through my computer!!!!!

If you have been to Negril in the past 5 years and enjoyed yourself, this time should be no different. I think that the food is quite a bit better than "survival", but then again I'm into local people food, not high end dining. And like you , do not drink or smoke weed. However there is a lot more to do in the Negril area than sit on a beach. I always am on the lookout for new things to do and see and get bored quickly sitting on the beach. Try some of this stuff for something different and memorable while in Negril.
Friday or Saturday route taxi to the Sav market, take your camera.
    Mayfiled Falls
    Rockland Bird Sacntuary
Walk up into Red Ground especially some of the samll off shoot roads. Amazing who you might meet.
Try to hook up with Markie the cave man in Red Ground for a fairly cheap tour of a great cave we used to play in back in the 70's.
Horseback riding and swimming with the horses at Rhodes Hall Plantation.
Take a route taxi for the Friday or Saturday market in Lucea.
Route taxi day trip to Half Moon Beach just to be alone.
Check to see if Discovery Falls is open, not far from Negril.
Respectfully check out a Sunday church service.
Notice I didn't even mention any of the normal stuff that tourist try to get done but never seem to get around to?
    Regards,

    Bob

    Ummm ....
Murders happen everywhere. In my hometown in the U.S. there have been 4 murders just this year - fortunately, nobody has reason to murder ME, either here or in Jamaica.
Viruses occur everywhere .. especially when people travel on airplanes and take them along - it happens in St. Martin too. One time I went to Jamaica with a cold, and I came back, all better!!
I've been to St. Martin/St Maarten, beautiful island (not as beautiful as Jamaica though) ... Drugs & booze are prevalent in SM too - but the people are not as friendly or genuine. One need not partake in drugs or booze if they choose not.
The food I had in St. Martin was 'okay' (save a little French Bistro on the St. Martin side, where the pastries were VERY good) .... BUT, the food in Jamaica is PHENOMENAL!!! If there was no other reason to go to Jamaica, I would be going back JUST for the food. SERIOUSLY, sometimes I look for flights just for a weekend trip to Jamaica, just to fill that hankering for Jamaican cuisine that I have found no other place in the world!!! Gimme ackee & saltfish, roast yam, callilou, saur sop, naseberry, jerk chicken from Scotchies, oxtail soup w/ dumplings, crabcakes, festival, patties, curry goat from 3 Dives .... gimme, gimme, gimme, please oh please .... nothing beats Jamaican cuisine ... with or without the munchies

Virus, water pollution, visitors being chopped up, doesn't sound like paradise to me. Add to that the beach errosion at the Tree House where I am staying and the fact that Negril has never been a "good food" destination. You eat to survive in Negril and settle for what you get. I love the beauty of the beach and cliffs, the Jamaican people and their music and that's what keeps me returning. At this point right now I can't change my plans cause I'll be there next week and hoping for the best. A healthy safe trip with many beautiful sunsets is what I hope to bring back home with me. I just hope this isn't my last trip to what I once considered a beautiful location.

I think Disneyland might be a good destination for you....or maybe Branson, Mo.
