Mary Gate Of Heaven Catholic Church and the Franciscan Friars who sponsor St. Anthony's Kitchen feed 120 people a day, five days a week and sponsor, with the help of Rotary and parents, 36 children in going to school every day. And, did I mention our thrift shop? When you come to Negril why not carry some extra clothes, flip-flops, shoes, school supplies, money and, yes even some time---volunteer for an hour or two at the Kitchen. We'd love to meet you! --Fr. where are you located in negril? i would love to volunteer some of my time when visiting. i will be in negril in march. what school supplies are in demand?
The Kitchen is on Nompriel road (the road to Sav) and is just beyond the taxi park and before you get to Sweet Spice--left side of the road. Right now we have a lot of school supplies. How about getting some inexpensive flip-flops. We cannot keep them around. People need footware all the time. Or a couple pair of shoes for school, sizes around 8, 9, 10. Or some used clothing if you have room in the luggage or new clothes--maybe for kids. We would love to have you help at the Kitchen. We are open Mon - Fri and best time to be there is 11:30 to about 1:00. If you are an early bird you can get there about 6:30 or 7:00 and help get breakfast ready for the children--we feed about 40 of them on their way to school.

For those unaware - if you want to help in anyway in Negril, bring down things for the schools or for those most in need - you can find no more appropriate place to ask other than the folks that run the St. Anthony Soup Kitchen.

I visited St. Anthonys with fr. jim on my visit last spring. I met Fr. jim at white sands hanging out. he toured me at st anthonys and it was quite a touching expeirience. i went back to green bay and requested that we have a jean day at work (we pay $2 to wear jeans once a month on friday) for st anthonys, at this point i am still waiting for that day. maybe when i go down in early march this year i can bring fr jim the cash. LOL Still waiting fr jim.

So happy to see you here! I have found a great number of kind souls in this community who have a true fondness and connection to Negril. Many of us want to be able to give back to the place that has given us so much. the above are older pictures, mass on Sunday may have changed times (10 or 10:30), go to church then meet Rob and Lisa at Cafe GOA for the Sunday live cast, breakfeast, and music!
When in Negril, we always try to go to the Sunday Mass, the church is right across the street from Cocolapalm. Mass is about an hour, great singing like I've never before experienced in a Cathloic church, book keeper from White Sands, Mrs Williams is in the chior, her son Mickey used to run the entertainment at T-Water. I usually leave a good donation in the collection plate, you can bring any donations to the rear of the church.

Are you connected with the rotary in any significant way other than cosponsoer of things noted abouve?
We will be in Negril next week for a few days and will try to stop by to say hello and perhaps chat for a bit if you have time.
