I have a GoPro Hero 3, the new one has a flat glass instead of the curved one in the older models. This is specially good for underwater and you will get clearer video and pictures. I had the original GoPro and recently upgraded. I really like the Hero 3 but the battery life isn't as good as the Hero & Hero 2. Battery life gets even worse if you turn on the WiFi in the camera to remotely view and trigger the camera via your phone or tablet but I doubt many will be doing that while on the beach! I use that feature mainly to properly frame the shot and then turn it back off.
