My cousin stayed there last year for 5 days, and she said there is a big difference in the new rooms and the old ones. She was not happy with her room, and felt mislead about the differences beetween the two classes of rooms. Staying solo, she felt cramped in the space and said had she been with her boyfriend they would have had to get a bigger room. She did say that the staff was nice, and the food and drinks good.

The last time I was in Negril I went with friends for the Sunday dinner and jazz, and enjoyed it so much a couple of us went back for lunch and to enjoy their pool, bar and beach. Everything was great - food, facilities, pool, staff. I asked to see the rooms and it's true that the new rooms are much nicer than the basic ones. (I'm one of those people who, when I like the vibes at a place I ask to see rooms and make a mental note for future travel plans.) From what I've seen and my cousin's report, I know that I would be comfortable staying in one of the nicer rooms. I doubt I'd stay in one of the less expensive ones unless I had an option to upgrade if I didn't find it acceptable. Also check reports on tripadvisor.com - my cousin said she checked their reports and hoped that they were wrong about the basic rooms but that they were really spot-on in terms of the differences in room categories.
