    Spirit air sucks!!!!!

    Had to give you all an update on our Feb 4 rotten flight to MoBay from Ft. Lauderdale. Plane was scheduled to depart Ft. Lauderdale at 10:40am, delayed, delayed again, delayed again, delayed again, said it was due to crew coming from Orlando, later they said crew was coming from ? somewhere up north near Chicago??, anyway our plane was sitting there waiting for the crew then they gave our plane to the people going to Cancun, (because they didn't want 2 late flights??? look at the departing board --- Spirit has many delayed flights today), boarding right in front of us, so people started complaining and security was called because a man and his wife "got loud" but we all clapped when the husband and wife made their speeches regarding the delay, Spirit kept lying to us about this and that, gave us a $14 voucher for food, later announced on the plane that they were giving us a $50 credit on the NEXT ticket. Finally left Ft. Lauderdale some time after 2pm and got to Negril after the sunset, what a day but we made it. The flight crew apologized several times for the delay but what the ----!!! The ride home was fine but will I be using my frequent flyer miles again??????

    I've heard soooo many bad stories about Spirit...then one finally hit close to home. I am the Godfather of two kids, ages 10 and 5. Their Mom flew American, while the dad and the kids took the seemingly good deal and flew separately to D.C.. The Mom's trip had no issue...Ahhh, but the Spirit flight...What I am about to share , I know 1st hand as we'd given them a lift to both departure gates at DFW and they'd parked their car in our driveway... The Spirit flight from D.C. was late that day and missed it's Florida connection to Dallas. The ground team in Ft. Lauderdale was really snotty(I was listening on the Dad's phone) They offered nothing, other than an excuse that the flight to Dallas had to depart and that it was not Spirit's fault, but the WEATHER'S...Needless to say some of the other passenegers were steamed... This was about 8:30 pm

    The flustered ground crew there offered them nothing, even though they'd be stranded until FIVE AM THE NEXT MORNING! No food vouchers, no room in a nearby hotel, NOTHING! Seeing my God Kids crashed out on that cold hard floor infuriated me. I called Spirit Customer Service and was promptly blown off the 1st time... The second call to a different 800 number landed me someone who "appeared" to have the customer's best interest at heart. After taking down, flight, passenger and info as to why they were stranded, i was put on hold for 4-5 minutes.

    I was hopeful that the new agent would come back with good news. His words to me upon returning to the line were, "I checked into this and won't be able to do anything". "It's up to the agents on the ground in Florida"... When I explained that the Dad and two little kids had gone that route already , he simply said, "I am so sorry, there is nothing I can do".... This was about 10:30-11pm...

    Finally, i was able to find a nearby hotel on the net and the wife booked it. By the time this Dad and his two little children were picked up by the hotel shuttle, it was almost midnight! They were just happy to lie down. Unbelievable, unless you read two or three or more of these stories ... Just so no one is further mislead(You can always roll the dice) or perhaps does not believe... Here are 646 reviews www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/spirit.html

    I was just reading about a Sunwing flight out of Toronto. They sat on the tarmac for 13 hours! 13!! I can't imagine

    My first thought when I read the title to this thread, "Spirit Air Sucks!" was, "yes, it does."

    One time on Spirit was enough for me.

    Spririt tries to justify this by saying that customers are giving up great service for cheaper fares....but there is so only so far you can skimp on the service end before people say "enough is enough".

    I will completely agree with you that Spirit sucks - there's no denying that.

    With that said, if you fly enough, you're going to run into delays no matter what airline you fly. And, if the delay is caused because of "weather" you are pretty much left on your own with no food or hotel compensation. It unfortunately is the reality we all live with in today's flying economy.

    It sucks that you lost a few hours of your vacation, but hopefully you were able to enjoy your stay!

    I'm a one and done with Spirit as well but not quite sure if this was their fault.

    So after missing our flight departing from MoBay and having to spend another night in the first place our plane landed in Ft. Lauderdale leaving us 45 minutes to get thru customs, claim our luggage, recheck our bags and make it thru security to board the next flight. Just seems to me that the routing should have been planned better. They had to pull everybody on our flight out of the customs line and get them thru. Just not something I would like to be doing after a nice chill vacation.
