    Pelican Bar

Visited the Pelican Bar today. What a great experience!

Just a note that it seems to be getting more difficult to get there. One of the usual departure points has stopped running boats out for now because the police are cracking down on the local fisherman. Apparently the fact that they don't have a "tourist license" is a problem with the police and they are fining fisherman if they haul people out there. Our driver was able to arrange something at a different departure point and it all worked out, but there may come a time when it may not be possible to get there.

Absolutely loved the unique experience of visiting the Pelican Bar!

I don't think it will ever happen that we won't be able to get out there...the fishermen/boat operators/Pelican Bar will just have to get a tourist license.

Glad you enjoyed your time out there...quite the experience!

Is it expensive to get a tourist license?

The costs are reasonable...fisherman/boat operator could make enough in one or two trips.
More importantly to be licensed by the Jamaica Tourist Board, you have to maintain your business to a certain standard...safety, maintenance etc on a yearly basis....which is good for everybody!
