is there something strange about bourbon beach?

I have not been there yet this year but a couple staying here recounted two bad experiences. One was last week when the headliner started at 1:30 and then the place closed at 2. The other was the Mighty Diamonds who didn't show when my friends finally left at 2 a.m. I will see on Monday what happens with F. McGregor show but I sure miss the Escape. Those shows were organized, on time, in a lovely setting and a pleasure to see.

I saw a concert there in December and it was really great. I do have to agree that I enjoyed the shows at Negril Escape much better but I think that Bourbon Beach has improved from several years ago. Toots and the Maytals, who I would give anything to see BTW, is performing there tomorrow. I have no doubt that it will be great. Toots is a true professional and a true legend in my book. Jaherring, if you happen to read this, please go see this one. I have no doubt that you will be impressed with their performance. If you do, let us know...for those of us here at home...who would give their eye teeth to see it! IF you don't enjoy it, I'll buy you a drink or two if we ever have the chance to meet in Negril. Now, I am not saying it will start early...but I have no doubt whatsoever, that it will be off the hook good! I am truly envious for those that are in Negril to see this one but I am truly happy for you guys too!

I know it is frustrating waiting, waiting, but then again....for many of us in rural areas, it is our ONLY chance to see true reggae performances.

Not sure if you've been to many reggae shows but it's usually a late night thing.. But as far as them actually closing at 2 makes no sense, you would expect the birthplace of reggae to hold a respectable show and stay open as long as needed... I've been to shows here in the states that were similar and also been to shows at certain venues will stay open as long as it takes.. But it's part of the culture and something to expect .. But I also would expect them to extend hours f

Surprised to hear that they closed at 2. Reality is most reggae headliners come on well after midnight, so plan accordingly. We took in 2 shows over New Years and had an amazing time. The staff is first rate and they do the best they can to ensure you have a great time. Bathrooms could use a little extra attention, but I'm sure they have rectified that going forward. Keith the GM is very responsive to whatever feedback you might have, just make sure he has a chance to make it right.

We've had a few different experiences. Our first concert in Negril was seeing Shaggy at The Jungle. We got there at 10:00 pm thinking that we would be "fashionably late". Ha, we stood outside listening to DJ music for hours. Shaggy finally got there about 2:00 am and sang 3 or 4 songs and then was gone. He was great, but after waiting for 4 hours I was expecting a bit more of a show.
The next year we saw Ky-mani at Negril Escape and it was AMAZING! Organized, on time, and a great atmosphere.
In September we went to Bourbon Beach and it seemed like the list of headliners was changing on a daily basis, we finally gave up about 3:00 am on seeing any of the big names but apparently Sizzla came out shortly after we left. The saving grace for that show is that my beloved West End Gang played and I got to meet Tafari

I enjoy seeing shows at Bourbon beach-but its not unusual for acts to be no-shows (at last minute) ,to go on early in the morning and to sometime play only a few songs..Its just the way things go sometime..I alwasy tell people to never purchase ticket ahead of time-and dont be surprised if one of the above happens..but that shouldn't deter you from checking out a show-cause you just may miss an amazing performance

Saw Toots last night. Show was amazing. I thought things were pretty organized. Was easy to get a beer from one of the two bars...Red Stripes were selling for $300 JA which I thought was quite reasonable for concert pricing. Bathrooms only have 3 stalls in the women's washroom...ran outta TP quickly in the evening and there was a temporary toilet back up issue which was resolved quickly by staff. Live music started around 9:45....all of which were quite good. Yellowman took the stage around 11:30...was a bit dissappointed that he chose to do mostly cover songs but still good none the less. Toots finally came on at 1am and sang a solid 2 hours till 3am. Not a huge attendance...was able to get right up to the stage and had the opportunity of bumping fists with an awesome performer! Great show...great venue
    King Yellowman...

Thanks so so much for posting! Even though I was sitting here at home, my heart and soul was wishing that I could have seen this concert! Just hearing about it and seeing the pics made it easier to swallow.
