Great information! There is a false sense of security in thinking you are in a closed invironment and no one would try to leave with you possessions. I know I have left my purse on the floor, under the seat while going to the restroom! Won't be doing that anymore. Thanks Smokin Kevan

I guess I am lucky. I leave my stuff right on the seat and don't even think about it. I trust everyone too much!

You are probably more likely to get robbed on vacation by a tourist rather than a local. you are likely to get robbed by a fellow traveller - even in flight!!! On the return flight from a class trip to Europe, the main teacher with my daughter's class had his passport stolen while in flight. Now, thankfully, there are many passport checks BEFORE you board, so they knew he had passed with his passport through all those checkpoints and had it when he boarded the aircraft. But somebody nicked it in flight! And just mosied on off the aircraft and into the the crowd with it .... And, as he found out when he landed, it is more common than you think. My passport and valuables stay on my shoulder in my totally amazing Bagalinni travel purse! Lightweight, lots of space; zippers galore inside; practically nick-proof! Be wise. Be safe.
