    Re: 1st solo trip!!

I went solo for the first time last November for 5 nights. Made a few new friends at the resort (Breezes Grand on Bloody Bay). It was great.

Here's what I did, activity wise when I was able to overcome the sand gravity.

Saturday - arrival and I went to the Seastar concert/webcast.

Sunday - hooked up with a couple from the board for a trip to YS Falls and the Pelican Bar. I had never met them before.

Monday - worked lunch at St. Anthony's soup kitchen and chatted with the local volunteers there. Fantastic experience. One of them offered to take me back to my resort but I had them drop me off mid beach (Charela) and I walked a ways along Long Bay. Stopped at a couple bars, chatted with locals and other guests. Ended up at Cosmo's for a meal. Yum.

Tuesday - I just hung out on the beach at the resort.

Wednesday (my birthday) - I caught the One Love Bus and did the Pub Crawl. Lisa and Rob stopped by for the last few stops. Then the three of us went to Ivan's for a bit. It was great to spend some time with them. Very hospitable.

Thursday - went home kicking and screaming. Five days just wasn't long enough.

You'll find plenty to do, or nothing at all. As long as you're in Negril, it really doesn't matter a whole lot anyway. Does it?

lol no it doesn't..as long as I'm there I know I'm good. I'd like to try the One Love bus/pub crawl (have a funny feeling I'll be crawling by the end of it). Thanks for your help!

    Suddenly solo too!

Hope you don't mind me tacking onto your thread Sassafrass!

And I'm nervous about budget. I bought the Seasplash Living Social deal last April after already booking another trip to Negril in November. Thought at that price, I would be able to squeeze it into my budget to celebrate my 50th birthday this April. That deal ended up falling through but I made arrangements to go anyway with a friend mid to end April. Booked flights last June, but my friend backed out last week. Now I have to book a different (cheaper) hotel for the first 7 nights. Going to spend the last 4 at Coco, but couldn't get the same low price for the first 7 nights. Was set to go with Hidden Paradise....then wondered if I should spend an extra $22/night to go to Rayon. Is Rayon that much nicer than Hidden Paradise? Would like a tv, fridge for sure....but want to keep room costs as low as possible. Wish I could be right on the beach, but neither White Sands nor Wild Parrot have a tv (Wild Parrot may be booked up already anyway). I like the location of Rayon better (further north) than Hidden Paradise, but like that Hidden Paradise has a private beach area at Mama Flo's. I like to feel like I "belong" on my beach spot and I like to bring my own drinks for the beach which they allow. I'm thinking I wouldn't be able to do that if I were at Rayon and used the lounge chairs at Sunbeach. I wanted to keep my nightly room budget to $80 or less. I can get a deluxe room at Hidden Paradise including breakfast for $70/night and Rayon would be $92/night including continental breakfast. Not much more per night, but the extra $150 to spend on food etc. for the 7 nights is VERY appealing. And going over my nightly budget makes me nervous. Too bad I missed the Treehouse special, but my friend and I were going with a jr suite at Coco (at the time).

I've already booked Coco throught Negrilonestop, and have been emailing with tons of questions....feel that I should stick with them to re-book - because they've been so good all along and because my deposit paid already exceeds my total cost for the last 4 nights at Coco (so I have credit to apply to a different property). Any thoughts on Hidden Paradise vs. Rayon, or other suggestions? Thought about Bar B Barn, but not sure that I'd feel comfortable staying there and worried I may find it too loud at night. I'm checking onestop's site several times/day hoping for a fab sale someplace great.... Any thoughts?

Other than that, I do have a friend in Negril that I plan to spend time with but will definitely be on my own a lot so hope to meet up with some of you!

Have stayed several times at both the Rayon and Hidden Paradise, love both. Rayon is nicer and being honest we would probably still be staying there but pricing compared to when we first started staying there inflated to a point that we moved on a few years ago. I'm sure many think it's still a bargain and who am I to disagree, however one trip we inquired about our usual room with plenty of notice and pricing was nearly double what we payed previous year, despite talking to owners. Too much competition for that.

Hidden Paradise on the other hand is awesome especially when you factor in the pricing. We love it. Everyone is different but from someone who has stayed a bunch at both places, NO brainer.......... Hidden Paradise.

Have a great trip where ever you stay,

    Jamb
