Just back from 12th trip to Negril

As always - wonderful time relaxing in Negril. Got 10 days this time and was lazier than ever!

    Food reviews:

Rock House - WAS FANTASTIC. I had read some bad reviews recently and almost didn't go but decided to give it a shot and was so happy we did. Once of our best meals of the trip. The service was impeccable and they had rain so had to move people around a lot but were accommodating and attentive. I talked to the driver from RH to ask about the bad reviews and he said they had changed over chefs in the past and thought maybe that was the issue. Whatever it was - it was fixed this time. Oh - and my husband is a wine distributor and we found Rock House had the best wine list around. (which is hard to find)!

IVANS - we stayed at Catcha for 3 days so obviously we ate at Ivans and it was great as usual. Wonderful, beautiful property and the food was equally as good.

Seastar - we did the Saturday night buffet and have to say we were disappointed compared to our last visit. Food was just not as good this time.

Charela Inn - Excellent food and some good wine. Thursday night jazz and blues night is always fun and entertaining. Robin Banks performed and she is always good but this time Roxy knocked it out of the park. Fun evening.

Coco La Palm - good food but they had a jerk pasta that was ridiculous. Best pasta we probably had the entire trip

Cafe Goa - EXCELLENT. Oh my = their baked nachos and veggie quesadillas are sooooooooooo good and the ANGRY Bloody Mary's are the absolute best I have ever had anywhere. Also- coffee is fabulous - brought home 10 pounds.

Italian Cafe - we had never been here before but it's on the beach road by Cafe Goa. Went there twice - loved the pizza - EXCELLENT.

Kuyaba - always a favorite. The mountain pepper shrimp are so good.........it's a dish we haven't been able to get anywhere....have it many times while were are there and it did not disappoint. Their lobster thermador is also very good.

Presleys - across from Rock house on the west end. We had heard great things about this place. Only 3 tables, call early and order...etc....It was "ok". We both had the lobster and honestly it was majorly over cooked and tough. I'm thinking maybe he made it ahead? They were huge portions...but it just wasn't that great.

LTU - good snacks and drinks - they do not skimp on the RUM - although no one does!

Will post more about other things later - but had to update everyone on the delicious food. Miss the beaches fresh juices, patties and coco bread already!

    Sounds fantastic!
I can hardly wait until we can say we are back from our 12th trip
A few of the restaurants you mention are on my "must do" for April.
    Looking forward to hearing more.

Thanks for the reviews, will look forward to more.

I have to agree about the Italian Cafe. We wandered in one night a few years ago and it has become a meal stop every trip. I'm usually not that big on Italian
food, but they are as you said, excellent.

Meant to mention at the Rock House we had the coconut shrimp and some lobster appetizers that were so good.....and the lobster grilled was 2 pounds and cooked perfect. I hope to get some pictures posted this week. It's so funny - I actually got tired of lobster - go figure!

Your report was nearly identical to my experiences back in November. I felt the same about Presley's, large portions, but not great. I had a family of lobster there, and it was just... Meh.

Seastar service was as usual, wonderful (love Barbara), but the Saturday night buffet was not in any way what I would call good.

I love Ivan's, even though we do not stay there, and rock house is one of the best high end places you can find on the west end in my opinion.

SOOOO glad to see better reviews of the Rockhouse. Always a place we go, always fabulous, and I was getting nervous that it had run its course. It is back on my short list for December meals!
Looking forward to the trip report!
By the way, can anyone eat at Ivans, or just guests at Catcha? We are at Banana Shout.

Best to make a reservation for Ivan's, but they will let anyone in (even me). Gets crowded later in the evening.
