Hi, I am a new runner and would like to keep it up. How safe is it for me to run on 7 mile beach all by myself in the morning ?

I walk the beach every year at approx 6:30 am and have never had a problem

The morning is my favorite time on the beach. Quiet and peaceful, the perfect time for a run. Although I won't be running, I'll be sitting sipping my blue mountain coffee and watching you go by as the beach wakes up :-)
I see a lot of runners on the beach first thing in the morning.
No reason to feel unsafe on the beach in the morning ........ enjoy your runs!

The beach is a pretty popular running spot. I got my exercise walking down there and watching the runners early am when we have stayed on the beach![]()
As a runner of over 30 years, no way you would catch me running on the beach anywhere. The sand shifts, the beach is uneven, etc. To me, the beach is future knee or hip surgery waiting to happen. I prefer a solid surface that is relatively even, not slanted. Not nearly as "cool" but much better for your body & for having an efficient run vs. one where you'll be fighting sinking into the sand & have a lopsided stride in many areas. This is the kind of thing non-runners do not think about. My first trip in 1986 I ran the beach my first morning. Never again. The road is where you'll find me... on the shoulder, ALWAYS facing oncoming traffic but completely aware of vehicles approaching from behind as well, early - before traffic picks up. I'll take a good run over the cool factor any day of the week. When in Negril - which is most of every summer for many years - I do it 7 days a week, then hit the gym. This is just my opinion based on decades of running & working out, being a certified personal trainer. BTW... never a running or fitness related injury & I'm in my 60's. When I'm vegging on the beach & see someone running on the beach, all I can do is shake my head. I know some people swear by it but I make my run on the road decision based on logic & knowledge. On the road - at least in the early a.m. - one gets to see Negril workers getting ready for the day... night shift leaving, day shift arriving, cook shops setting up, etc. You won't see me on the road after 8 a.m. though. Usually, I'm finished by 7 a.m.
Thanks everyone, esp Yvonne, I have walked the beach with husband and remember the slant and sand. I just may stick with my morning swim...and hope to get on a stand up paddle board ! 16 more days and I can't waite !!
I am staying at Nirvana, usually like to go for a 4 mile run in the morning, can anyone give me a guesstimate of a good spot about 2 miles either way from nirvana to run to and back to get my 4 miles in?
Thx!!
You're welcome lisajones1369. I walk on the beach all the time & do so where it's most solid & even... right on the water's edge. No way you'd catch me sloshing through there w/ my running shoes though. Still not truly a flat surface not to mention the water weighing down my shoes & wet sand clogging the treads. I'm just a practical person :-)
Rastabell... If I were you I'd head away from town & turn back where you'd normally hit your halfway point in your run. You probably know what your time would be on that. My guess is that'd be somewhere along the stretch of AIs or just past. You'll be able to figgure it out easy enough once you get there. I start out at the Negril Gym & usually turn around at Swept Away.
