    Re: Ricks Cafe Cave Scam

I don't necessarily doubt the story, but I have to say that we were there 4 times during our trip in February, and it didn't happen to the Mr., or me, but I don't dive . As a matter of fact, I was talking with the older diver, I only know him as BirdMan, but the dude is in some remarkable shape........ I digress. He said that Rick's leased the property on the other side of the cove specifically to keep the kids out. Maybe it worked, maybe it didn't, but it doesn't sound like they're not trying to do somethng about it.

Wondering if "Rick's" owner should get involved,at least where his employees think its funny this going on! If he looks at this board he probably would. I know someone that is pretty close to "owner" and when I see him in April I will mention this.

We all know that no matter where we live, we must always be vigilant, especially when we travel. Of course there will be security guards and staff who laugh about it. It might be their friends who are making a living from this and who are they to stop it ??
It certainly is not a good situation for the folks at Rick's when people stop coming because of it and I just don't see that happening so all we can do is let them know about it !!

was just there and jumped. swim to the ladder, he will pull it out, relax and tell him to put the ladder in, if he doesn't, tell him again a bit firmer and swim up to where the ladder should be. He'll put it in...

When I was there last week, there was no issue of the ladder not being in. They only removed it for a brief period when a boat would come in to drop off tourists.

They were just standing BY the ladder telling people to go the other way. They would never block the ladder or remove it- that would REALLY be bad.

That may help us that already know about the scam, but it doesn't help the hundreds of tourists who unsuspectingly go there everyday that are unaware of this scam.

The least Ricks could do is place a sign at the top, and one on the steps that says, "AFTER YOU JUMP, YOU MAY EXIT
TO THE LADDER ON THE RIGHT"

If they wanted to take it a step further, they could have Rick's employees offer tours of the caves or have signs up that say, "You may tour the caves, but please tip your guide"... And make them OFFER a cave tour instead of demanding it.

Anyways, it's a couple of kids and a small young adult or two. It shouldn't be THAT hard to fix. With the money that Rick's pulls in, you would think they could handle this... It's pathetic.

The fact that Rick's is one of the finest swimming holes in the world! I find it offensive that some hustlers are taking advantage of some really green tourists nor that the management are allowing it to happen. But as I understand it rick's does not own the cliff side past the first high dive platform. One does not really need a ladder to get out that pool but still the hustlers will screw it up if allowed!

Wow...... I had heard about this going on a while back, but thought they had it under control... I don't plan to jump (irrational fear of the water) but I can tell you if I did and someone pulled the ladder up and wouldn't let me get out of the water I would throw a hysterical screaming fit and draw so much attention they wouldn't know what hit them! Let the crazy lady out of the water!!!
