    Question: Connection through Charlotte

I have a dumb question.. We are flying US Airways connecting through Charlotte in April, I was talking with my Dad last night and he mentioned that when he and my Mom connected through Charlotte going to Jamaica in 2010 they had to get their luggage and re-check it.

That seems odd to me, I've never had to do that on any other flight I've taken to Jamaica (except when we had an overnight layover). Everything has always been checked all the way through to Montego Bay.

Is this a Charlotte thing, or a US Airways thing? We have a really short connection time, and if we have to get our bags that could be bad...

    36 days and counting........

I just flew from Minneapolis via US Airways with a connection in Charlotte on March 1. Luggage did not need to be rechecked. I had like a 40 minute layover and my luggage was there in Mobay - thankfully.

i have have traveled through Charlotte on US airways, and never have had that problem.. my bags were checked straight through to mobay.

coming back to US, the bags have to be picked up for customs and immigration, and checked in again for connecting flight. i am also flying us airways this trip.

Thanks!!! That's what I thought, but my Dad was insisting that they had to get their bags going down and recheck them!

I always connect through CLT. Luggage doesn't have to be re-checked. Keep in mind that the airport is fairly large so find your gate then "explore".

Exactly!! All in all, I really think the connection through Charlotte is great. Much easier than Atlanta airport IMHO. Charlotte airport is a hub for US Airways...definitely not too small but not as large as the Delta hub in Atlanta. Coming back home through customs there....seems to be quicker too. Enjoy your trip!
