    lobster season

We arrive mid april during off season for lobster. I'm aware not to buy any fresh lobster. I've also seen that some established restaurants are allowed to sell lobster during this ban. Where are the places that can sell? Cosmos I hope. Would chew bees for lobster thermidor.

I think it used to be that lobster caught and frozen prior to the season closing could be served but I think that has changed and the ban is total. That does not stop illicit lobster sales and I urge you to respect the ban so that we can all enjoy lobster for years to come.

When we were there at the end of April 2012, 3 Dives had lobster (they even had a lobster special one night). When I asked, I was told that it was caught and frozen before the season closed. However this may have been before the total ban that Ras Walleye mentioned.

    Here's the straight poop:

Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is advising members is advising members of the public is advised that the Lobster Season will be closed from April 1 to June 30.

The ministry said spiny lobsters in storage between April 1 and 21 which have been declared to the Licensing Authority may be sold, exported or processed within this 21-day period.

However, after April 21, it will be illegal for anyone to have any species of spiny lobsters/spiny lobster parts or products in their possession. It will not matter whether the lobster is fresh, frozen or otherwise. Persons found in breach will be liable for prosecution.

Note, fishing for spiny lobsters during the closed season is illegal and in addition, no spiny lobsters are to be held alive during the Closed Season in any holding device. However spiny lobsters unintentionally captured in fishing gear must be returned to sea immediately.

    No problem Ras!

There's 8 of us total (2 of us are "seasoned jamaican" travellers. The rest are the "resort" types - mexico, and DR are the only places they've been. You know the type, stay on the resort, only excursions from the resort, etc..etc..

Gonna quite the culture shock for them I think! Just having locals speak english, and being able to drink the water is a good start! LOLOL
