    Bourbon Beach Rip Off!

Live Reggae Show with Romain Virgo on Monday night was a disaster. The charge of $1500JA per person was a RIP OFF.
The artist come on stage around minutes to 1 and when he come on he only performed one song.
As he was about to perform another one someone came onstage and said they were having some problems. There and then they packed up all the equipment and left the stage.
Everyone was so shocked as they did not act as professional as they have been known to recently act. My guest and I wanted to know what was going to be done about this as every one stormed the office doors to get back their money and no one was doing or saying anything.
Even the police were called in because of the riot.
Bourbon beach will not have the support of my guest and I anymore because of this event unless they choose to compensate us for our losses. This is bad business, people should get back their money.
    Thank you for listening.

Truly upsetting indeed! This young man is an upcoming new artist in Jamaica. Many of my Jamaican friends have turned me on to his music. Such a shame that this type of thing happened. Not only for the reputation of Bourbon Beach but the artist. Hope that this wakes his camp up! You cannot work in this fashion and make it in today's world. Hope all that paid..get compensated. Sad thing is...if I had been in Negril, I would have definitely gone to his concert.

This is a sad and often told story. When will the promoters realize that late night shows don't work.disappointing but not suprising.

Let's put this in perspective: the people there that night did get a night of music correct? If you look back at the advertisement on the Negril.com home page about 4 other artists are also listed...money back? a complaint yes! Anyone who keeps going to these events promotes these bad events, be it very late performers or one song acts. Tell the owners you will not be coming till they get their act together.

This is a shame! But remember Bourbon was not the promoter for the show. Kevin only rented out his venue for the show. On Bourbon Beach's FB page, he put a message saying how sorry he was this happened. I hate that this gave Bourbon Beach a bad rap, because he and his crew have worked so hard to bring it back.
I'm sure the promoter won't be using his venue in the future. Big up to Kevin for all he has done to improve Bourbon for us all to enjoy!

Have you tried to email the Management of Bourbon Beach?

    Managing Director – Maureen Miniter

    Tel: 876-869-2838

    Email: maureen.miniter@bbnegril.com
I have stayed at Bourbon Beach twice, and I have also spent a lot of time enjoying the bar/beach/restaurant on previous visits. I have always found their staff and management to be very accommodating to requests and complaints.

You might have better luck with it now, rather than at the time where there was a mob storming the office.

    Re: Bourbon Beach Rip Off!

You really have to understand how this concert thing works. Promoters rent the facility, book and pay the performers and equipment, then charge whatever they want to charge at the gate. The venue rarely has anything to do with the actual concert. Performers do not set ticket prices, promoters do. The reason most Jamaican artists don't make money in Jamaica is because of unscrupulous promoters, who often book too many acts, then fail to pay them prior to the concert, which is one of the terms of the contract. That is why many artists will not perform until they get ALL of their money, because they know if they perform without getting paid in advance, the promoter will not pay them, claiming all types of excuses.

Another trick promoters use without our knowledge is to pay the performer for a 45 minute performance, but never tell the consumers this fact. Most people expect to receive at least a 90 minute show, but unless the promoter pays the performer for 90 minutes, you will get what the promoter paid for. The music business is hard enough for ethical performers, but some performers do not endure themselves to fans by appearing so late on the stage. No one enjoys waiting 2-3 hours until the performer actually takes the stage.
