I had my first visit to Negril back in May and let me tell you I am in love. I can't think of any other way to describe it but intoxicating. As soon as I got home I started planning my next trip.

The friend I traveled with in May is unable to go back with me in September and to my amazement, I can't find anyone else to accompany me. But dang if that's going to keep me from going back!

I'm staying in the same place, on the cliffs, just walking distance to Rick's. We spent a lot of time watching the divers and just plain soaking up the sun and swimming/snorkeling last time. This time I would like to venture out a bit more. Neither one of us really knew what to expect or how to go about doing things on our first visit (OMG the money conversion situation about drove us nuts) but this time I'd like to see more. Can you experts give me some advice on day trips for a solo gal? Drivers, prices to expect, places to see, etc. I'm up for just about anything! If it matters, I'm 40, in pretty decent shape, and a little intrepid to go out on my own (also recently divorced and had nothing to do with my trip to Jamaica, BTW). Thanks in advance and I don't mean this to sound like a personal ad!

Hi Angie, I sent you a private message...I've been going solo for years, also, while I am thinking about it....get a USD to Jamaican conversion "cheat sheet" off the internet before you go. Its VERY helpful after a few cocktails...lolo

I always think of Jamaican money this way. I move the decimal two points to the left. 100J becomes an expensive $1. US. or Canada. (about $1.15 - $1.20 or so depending on the rate that day.) Convert your money at a Cambio and be done with the conversions.

A tip if you want to take some longer day-trips to the popular activities - like Mayfield Falls, YS Falls, Appleton Rum Factory, Black River Croc Tour, Floyd's Pelican Bar, etc.
Suggest you contact some of the established tour companies and tell them you'd like to be an added person to go with a group already going. That way you're not paying the whole cost by yourself. For instance, instead of roughly $130 for the day by yourself (or for 2 people) + tip of course, most tours are just $20-$30/person extra for more than 2 people, and you could divide the total cost evenly.
It's pretty common, and the tour operator will make sure the others are fine with doing it. If you're flexible on the day, and give them a list of places you're interested in - I'm sure they'll be able to match you up for a couple trips.
Two that I see doing this all the time are Talk of the Town Tours and Clive's Transportation - both highly recommended on this site. I am sure there are others. Clives even has his prices posted for the various tours - and of course they both will setup custom trips.
