I am one who is frequently out late at night - and although there are some route taxis out late, they are few and far between. You'll usually end up just taking a regular taxi after about 11-12. They want higher fares at night, but if the first one won't accept your fair fare offer just walk to the next one - one of them will agree. $500J if beach-to-beach or cliffs-to-cliffs and $1000J if between beach/cliffs is pretty fair - a couple $100J per person above that if more than just you.
A little extra details about how route taxis work since hasn't been said yet - they are a form of public transportation so usually a shared ride. Other riders may already be in the car when you get in and he may stop to pickup/dropoff other riders as he moves along his route. Works very well.
