    Newbie money question.

I could use a little info on expenses. I am not staying at AI, so how much do things cost? I understand that everybody has a different budget, but what do things cost in Negril.

    Beer?
    Drinks?
    Dinner (average)?
    Breakfast?
    Trans from airport?
    Trans in Negril?

Going to be there for a week. I am sure I could find a way to spend thousands, but would like to spend less more often.

    Thanks

Just bring a few thousand, and have a credit card available with a 10-20k limit and all is good. Most likely, you will bring more than is needed.

    heres my view on this...

start with transport....private transfer from airport 50.00-60.00, or you can get juta for a little less---see transportation section

trans in negril---negotiable for private---about 10.00 from one end to the other, local route taxi alot less

beer---about 2400 a case, or about 2.00 a piece on low end and 500 a piece on higher end bars

drinks about 500 each...look for happy hours....

    breakfast--10.00
    dinner 10-15 to 25-30

this is what we do---I budget so much a day for food and drink, most days we skip breakfast, some days we do patttys for lunch, or box lunches from fattys, etc, and then we can drink more, or spend excess on dinner....

Well, in Negril...you can spend as much or as little as you choose. You can get a private transfer from the airport for 50-60 US. However, you can go Juta and cut that in half or less. If you drink a bit, bring a cooler or have a room with a small frig. Drinks alone....can save one quite a few bucks if you have them in your room before you head out. Meals, eat where the locals eat. To me, better food at a much better price. The ambiance is fine, but if you are on a budget...you can still eat some great local foods. Buy fresh fruits and veg...and anything local...you will save money.

If you have a coffee maker in your room...you have a good start to breakfast. Buy some bulla, bun/cheese, fresh fruit, yogurt and you have breakfast cheap. Lunch..try some jerk chicken or patties from the locals, or some nice jerk pork from Red Dragon. Dinner...you can splurge or again..go local. Try anywhere that the locals go. You will be assured of getting good food, at a good price. It's up to you. It will always be fun in Negril! Enjoy yourself on whatever budget you choose.

My Girlfriend and I budget for 100 dollars a day each. We find that realistically we average about 100-120 dollars a day between the 2 of us. Some days are more expensive than others.

The airport transfers vary. We have been getting rides for about 50-70 US for private charter. Usually tag on a tip too.

    Re: Newbie money question.

We budget about $75-100 a day for the two of us for food, drinks, taxi's, incidentals.
We eat pretty inexpensively during the day ..... patties on the beach, lobster on the beach, jerk pork on the beach. Or we head to Mikey's first thing in the morning (right beside Best in the West) and grab a bunch of patties and coco bread to keep in the room for snacking on during the day.
We stock up on Rum, beer, snacks, etc at the Hi-Lo to keep costs down too.
For our transfer from the airport we use Joe Cool Taxi. It is $15 per person each way if you do a shared ride (more than 4 people) or $30 if you are by yourself. Definitely the least expensive transfers we have found and his service is awesome!
You can get beers along the beach for $150J and up, watch for drink specials/happy hours to get more bang for your buck!
For this next trip, we bought a cheap kettle for our room to make oatmeal, etc to keep breakfast costs down. We will leave the kettle for a friend.
Last time we brought down a blender to make our own frosty drinks and left the blender for a friend.
Route taxis are the best way to get around Negril, 100J will get you to the roundabout, another 100J will get you up the West End Road. Turn around, repeat for the way home.
Hope you have the best time EVER and that you let us know how your first trip was
