If Jamaica is spending money to expand the Sangster International Airport for our Russian and Eastern European visitors, it only makes sense that some of the restaurants also begin to cater to their familiar food choices, just as happened with our North American and Western European visitors. It would truly be bad business to do otherwise....

Why the hate? I think catering to potential customers is a great idea. I don't get the haters. Geeze people lighten up. Ms Anna has it spot on. Really, places trying to cater is going to ruin your vacation? As far as the idyllic vision of soft white sand, sweet reggae music, have you heard the some of the music? Hardly sweet. Soft white sand, have you seen the cig butts? Enjoy it for what it is and all its morphs. Out of Many Come One. Chill the vodka!
Sorry. this is hilarious to me. I have traveled to all corners of the earth and had cravings for krispy kreme donuts...mexican... etc, but never once expected a country to cater there(their?) menu to me. If the market is huge for Russian food in Jamaica an enterprising Russian will soon open a place stocked with vodka... Until then Mobay airport has vodka dirt cheap and tell you peeps to stock up.

A cute story we were at the riu tropical bay...a man had his two Russian nurses with him...they had on white mico mini skirts on at night and white thongs on at the beach...no cares about the food ...I think all the food is the same average food just go on vacation and have fun....
My guess it will be an enterprising Jamaican restaurateur.... (grin)

The point i was making is that when i go to a country, i don't expect that country to adapt to my palate. When I think of Jamaica, i think white sand, reggae music, the beach, etc. Not Russian cuisine. Nothing is wrong with Russian Cuisine, Italian, Asian, American, Spanish, or other Caribbean cuisine. But to expect it is another story. I guess the fact that i live in a place where you can get it all, makes Jamaica special to me. No hate. Just don't want to vacate to another NYC. I love Jamaica just the way it is.

Thanks for coming back and explaining your feelings. I dont feel that Miss Anna came here expecting Jamaica to adapt to the Russian palate. Since I know that English is not her first language and not everything comes out in writing on the internet as it does in a personal conversation - I truly think she was just making a rather obvious suggestion that it would be a wise business decision if some of the Negril restaurant owners think about her new, the new emerging Eastern European market.
Negril and Jamaica would only benefit from their increased visitation, tourism being such an integral part of the local economy.
And while both me and Lisa love Kingston, if you dont want another NYC, then DO NOT go to Kingston.... (grin)

Yes yes well said. I bet if you give any of those guys walking the beach $20-$30 they would be back in 10 minutes(45 minutes Jamaican time) with a bottle of vodka and a free spliff.

I will pass on that one, Bnewb. But, thanks.Hussyband...Miss Anna is simply suggesting/hoping to have the option once in awhile of food they are most familiar with in Russia.
I don't believe anyone is suggesting that Italians only eat pasta, Americans only eat hamburgers...it was a simple example of common food choices in the respective countries.
If you ask the old time hoteliers...pasta was put on the local menus from the suggestion of their Italian guests.
And, you can get wiener schnitzel at a couple of locations here...I would try the German Bar at Mary Bay.... I have had some very interesting food interpretations when in JA, the worst of which was a grilled cheese sandwich from sharks (although everything else they made me was delicious), I think I will pass on the jamaican schnitzel and stick to the snapper and ackee I have grown to love.
