This is a great idea. Diversity in international cuisine with the foods that are already grown on the island, keeps everybody happy. The tourists bring in the money and there is no reason why their needs/wants should not be catered. I'm Canadian of Polish descent, love to cook, my kid is currently attending culinary school, my mother cooks, bakes and brines all kinds of fish, cabbage, pickles. I've often wondered if this would be a good venture for us, since my future plans include living in Jamaica. Most certainly I'd be willing to discuss this with someone who is passionate about developing this vodka & pierogie menu in Negril.

    Random thoughts:

    1. Once you have had vodka from the freezer, you will never go back.
    2. When I returned home (to the USA) from my first trip to Negril, my biggest complaint was that I couldn't find decent Jamaican food around here.
    3. I'm guessing the Russians won't be reading the threads on Negril.com that discuss how to make your favorite Jamaican dishes at home.
    4. After honeymooning in Alcapulco for 11 days (many years ago), I could not wait to get back home and eat something other than Mexican food. That did not prevent me from wanting to travel out of the country again.

The reason I don't have a Russian restaurant in my hometown is UMM because it would not be profitable, other wise a wise investor would have it? Just because "one" person says it,doe's not make it legitimate. I'm still pissed I can't find pigs in a blanket with cabbage on the beach ya know?

Fred, you're but one man. Think along the lines of 449 others (to match Miss Anna's numbers) - all 450 of you desiring a hot dog in a bun with sauerkraut/cabbage. Take time and look on the beach for someone willing to offer this one little item on their menu. Foreign made hot dogs and buns easily purchased at the Mega Mart in MoBay, homemade sauerkraut easy to make with local ingredients. I guarantee that if each of you ordered just one of your pigs in a blanket during your time in Negril, and half the group stopped in multiple times during your ten day stay, that you'll find more than one little spot willing to whip them up for you and your group. You may need to bring the recipe for home made kraut with you to explain (and taste test) but that shouldn't be too hard I would think. Granted, this item may only be available during the few months of the year when other pig-in-lanket-with-cabbage minded people book stays in Negril, but then again, if that's when there is money to be made on this food item vs other times of the year, it's a win-win situation for the buyer and the seller, don't you think?

O/K so what are the numbers of Oriental visitors who want Chow Mein? What are the numbers of Polish people who want knockwurst? What are the number of Scandanavians who want cheese fondue? Tell one of Annies rich Russian pals who have SOOOO much money to UM buy a place in Negril and make it Russian. (funny,i get hammered for a towell on a chair but this arrogant request is SO politically correct?)

Your towel on the chair makes you my enemy, Fred. However, I do agree with some of this post. I guess my palate is more worldly.....I never, ever, ever, seek out USA food when I am out of the USA. Never. Why would I bother? And, unless I am in San Francisco, Little Italy or Italy, I NEVER EVER order Italian food, other than Pizza or Pasta. Why would I? St. Louis has the the fourth best Italian food in the world...

JA has great food. Somebody will make a concession to the Russian palate, if there is a profit to be made....hence.....Negril Nachos...FFS....

This is the key to this entire conversation. I applaud Anna for advocating for her clients. Nowhere is an opportunity to make money more quickly recognized or capitalized upon than Jamaica. If there is sufficient demand it will certainly be met.

Oriental? Now I have seen ignorant thrown around a few times in this thread, but I think this one takes the cake. Fred, it is Asian! Please tell me you don't call black people colored?

On a side note to those of you whom object to Russian food. Really? Why do you even care what foods restaurants choose to serve? The OP felt the need to throw it out there that a bunch of Russians have decided to make Negril a vacation destination and that they would like to see more familiar foods. Her delivery was a little straightforward and included non-relevant info to make her point, however if her facts were straight some business owners should take notice.
