    Russians in Negril

    Greetings!

This goes out as an open letter to all Negril businessmen, who monitor this board. Since 1st of January about 150 russians tourists come to town for 10 days 3 times a month. Usually they stay at SC properties such as The Palms and Travellers. They average spend at least 1000 us per person cash, so it makes almost 500 000 per months spent in Negril alone. The flight will continue through summer season, and the second flight will add on in october.

I believe its time for Negril businessmen to start cater more for russian tourists. Same as they do for italians for example. I.e. add more cooked vegetables to restaurant menues, such as mashed potatoes, stew cabbage and carrots, bread, sour cream, pork. Black tea for breakfast, vodka must be kept on ice and so on. Nothing really special, but I'm tired to get complaints from guests who stay in Negril that they can't find anything to eat for entire 10 days. Its hard to survive 10 days on rice and peas and chicken if you are used to entirely different diet.

I hope those who are interested will contact me in PM and I could help them to adjust their menu and promote them to our customers.

Jamaica is Jamaica. I expect to eat Jamaican food , drink what ever Jamaica has to offer, and be entertained by Jamaican artists.

They can't find anything to eat???? Really???? Jamaica has some of the best cuisine on the planet. I am Ukrainian and love perogies etc - I would never in a million years expect to find them in Negril or any other Caribbean island.

Jamaica is Jamaica........take it or leave it but do not try and change it.

When I stayed at Kuyaba, the couple in the room next to mine were from Russia. We had a short conversation and they had no complaints.

Jamaica isn't a rich country. Bending backwards for a few guests isn't the best idea. If they really cant find food then maybe Jamaica isnt the place for them to vacation or visit.

If enough people demand those things perhaps eventually they will start showing up. I think it's a case of supply and demand. When we travel we adapt to the destination and don't expect to it to feel like home.

Maybe you need to provide them with some suggestions on dining options in Negril and explain to them that Jamaica food culture is different than Russia. That way they will know what to expect. You don't need to eat rice and peas and chicken for 10 days. Lot's of fresh seafood, pork, pasta, pizza, burgers, goat, greens, plantain, breadfruit, fruits, pumpkin soup, breads ... just to name a few.

It's true that when visiting another country that hopefully one has the inclination to observe & participate in a different culture, sample the different foods that are offered and just enjoy a completely different vibe from home. But, just as with North American tourists etc (how many debates are there about the best pizza & hamburger in Negril ) we want to see a bit of food that is familiar.

Miss Anna...it's absolutely wonderful that the Russian tourists are now coming to Negril & I hope that your concerns can be addressed to everyone's satisfaction.
