    One week to Boardie Bash

Next week Friday--I'm there with my "bin" to collect whatever you bring for St. Anthony's Kitchen. Just to remind you, we are feeding lunch to about 130 people 5 days a week, breakfast to 40 kids on the way to school and sticking our nose into the lives of the folks who are are patrons. We also sponsor (thank you Franciscan Friars in Western Cananda and Cincinnati and Rotary Club of Negril) 40 children in our Get Kids to School Programme. And there is more--even a thrift shop, Anthony's Annex--and, well, we run a school bus too! We don't do a pub crawl on the bus--just to school--but maybe I can give Lenbert some competition at night and on the weekends. Rob was kind to acknowledge our work in the community and invite us to benefit from the Boardie Bash. Everything we do depends on the kindness of others. When you come to the Boardie Bash carry something along: clothes (adult or children), school supplies, flip-flops, a back pack (for a kid for school), kitchen supplies, food (we go through alot of rice and peas), $$$$$$$$$. We can handle JMD, USD, CAN, whatever! Make checks payable to Franciscan Friars (Mary Gate of Heaven will work too). As for a full bin--not to worry! Mary Gate of Heaven Church is right across the street from Coco La Palm--and couple doors away from the Wild Parrot--AND, we have a pick-up truck! And remember, "God loves a cheerful giver!" --Fr. Jim

Fr. Jim will you please private message me your address so I can send a check? My beautiful bride and I can't make the Bash we would like to help out. We also have three or four boxes of gently used soccer gear (balls, uniform shorts & shirts and many other things), would you be interested in them for the kids? Bless you for you work!

    Fr. Jim:
Are you affiliated with any US based organizations?
For tax purposes, I prefer to give financially to US based charities with US Federal ID#s.
Can I donate to US Franciscans and have them earmark the funds for you??

I know this sounds square to the average boardie, but don't hold it against me. Giving back comes in many forms.

It ain't square debit dog! You a wise mon! I encourage Americans to donate through the US since gifts given here or sent here are not legally tax deductible. My Franciscan province in Cincinnati processes gifts for us. You can send a check, payable to Franciscan Friars, to FriarWorks, St. Francis Friary, 1615 Vine Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202. We are a 501(c)(3) outfit. Note that you want the gift to come to me here in Negril. They will send 100% of your gift--wiring it into our account--and they will send an acknowledgment letter good for tax purposes. You can also go online and make a credit card gift--www.franciscan.org--click on donate. Or call them at 1-513-721-4700 x 3218 and they will take the info over the phone. I know all this because I used to be the director of that office before I came here--best job in my province. What was I thinking? Thanks for asking because others probably were thinking the same! --Fr. Jim

Good info Fr Jim - what about Canada? Is there a way for Canadians to donate and get a tax receipt?

    Fr. Jim:
I wont be there for the bash as I don't get in town til sat nite, but do hope to meet you when i'm there.
Gonna put your OH brethren to an efficiency test . . .
Putting a check in the mail today, and we'll see how long it takes to get to you.
What are the odds of the funds reaching you before I leave the Island on may 1?
"the check is in the mail" - really!

Good Morning Boardies.... if you have items that need to be picked up I have the Get The Kids To School Bus and would be happy to come and pick them up. You can contact me at moonlightvilla@yahoo.com or call me at 845-5996. I will be bringing the bus to the Wild Parrot Boardie Bash on Friday after we do the afternoon school pick up so you can see what good Father Jim, Mary Gate of Heaven and the Rotary are doing for Negril. I have a few more things that are needed for the kids at the kitchen if you are still looking for things to bring or purchase here....Shoe Polish the liquid kind works best and is way less mess black is the color needed. A shoe brush, hair oil, hair comb and brushes, hair elastics and hair bands. Body lotion is always needed. I look forward to meeting you all at the bash on Friday. I want to thank you all in advance for your kind contributions to make life a little easier for the needy we serve in Negril...

Debitdog, your funds will not reach me by may 1 but they will reach the Cincinnati office. They collect our gifts and send them along when they reach a certain amount. The wire fee is the same for $10 or $10,000! However, if you give me your name (unless debitdog is on the check) I'll have them notify me when the gift arrives and then I can let you know. It would be a good test of efficiency and I'm betting on my brothers/sisters in the FriarWorks office in Cincinnati! Thanks for the support! --Fr. Jim

Dear 2nuts4travel...can't help with tax breaks in Canada! I don't know the laws up there. Sorry! But I sure do love the fact that you asked! --Fr. Jim
