Just a general question about the luminous lagoon.. is it worth seeing? Just heard about this last week and I was sorry I didn't know about it when I was there in March 2013.

Went there a few years ago. It is true, it glows when the water is agitated. Folks that went in swimming glowed as well. It was a nice trip, but about two hours each way. They have a restaurant there that served, one of the best Steamed Conch that I have ever had. All in all I am glad that I went. You might want to ask around for some other people to go with you as the more the merrier on this evening booze cruise, and some times of the year the glow is better than others. I went in November and it was pretty good.
Wow thanks for the reply, we are going back next March, we are a group of 10.
How far from Negril?
It is approx a 2 hour drive each way non stop depending on traffic. East of Mo Bay on the way to Ocho Rios. I did this back in 2007 (?) from Negril. Left Negril around lunch time. Late lunch in Mo Bay. Light dinner at Luminous Lagoon/Glistenning Waters. Waited for night fall and before the moon rose. It was a magical experience. We had a few stops on the way back to Negril and arrived around midnight.
You need to check the weather and plan accordingly. You want to be there after dark and before the moon rises. Cooler temps diminish the lumination. Lots of recent rain diminish the lumination. If you hit it right it is unbelievable! The fish glow in the dark! I saw a crocodile that glowed! Others claimed it was a bamboo log! I do not know how many bamboo logs have four legs and a tail! Don't forget to check out the wake on the boat as you head out to the lagoon!
Enjoy,

I enjoyed.Don't go on a full moon, the darker the better.Maybe some shrooms will enhance the time .Didmine lol.
I've done Glistening Waters/Luminous Lagoon several times and put together a day trip for friends that included a visit. It is really cool and I highly recommend it. From Negril it makes for a late night as it's 2 hours away and an after dark kinda thing. We always stopped on the way back to Negril from Ocho Rios. You can have dinner there and take a later boat for optimum dark. There is a lot to do on the north coast to put together a variety of day trip fun. Rocklands Bird Sanctuary in the hills above MoBay. The actual city of Falmouth as a opposed to the Cruise port theme park version. Discovery Bay historical park, where Columbus landed, and they have a Scotchies there now for good jerk. The Marley pilgrimage to Nine Mile in the hills of St. Ann, the drive alone is a spiritual experience. There's everything from alligator farms and Arawak caves to Dunn's River Falls and Mystic Mountain. Make it an adventure!

sounds like I will be busy next year.... Thanks all!!
We went....it was OK...we were told "it wasnt a good night for it"....so abit disappointing. We only saw the "glistening" when someone jumped in a moved their arms and legs around. So...I guess picking the right night is important.
PS...Pelican Bar...Mayfield Falls....enjoyed these WAY more!!

We have been to Luminous Lagoon and thought it was really neat. The whole family jumped in and I don't think we stopped laughing the whole time we were in the water. Every movement is lit up! It was a little freaky swimming in the dark, and keeping track of the kids, but worth it. There are only a few places in the world where these little critters can live, so definitely something you won't see everywhere else.
