For me, what makes Jamaica so special is the mixture of raw sensuality of the people, the culture and the beautiful surroundings. If you can't feel "more alive" in Jamaica, you maybe need to see a doctor and have him check you for a pulse.
From the musical lyrics of the songs to the lilting Patois of the people, everything seems to entice you try new things, eat different foods and to learn more about the people and their culture.
Most of us have a "pioneering spirit" somewhere in our souls that makes us believe that we too can live off the land and easily assimilate ourselves into the local runnings. Sometimes we romanticize the notion that life is free and easy in Jamaica even when we see people struggling to have a roof over their heads and food in their belly.
Jamaica is sweet and has a wee bit of a bitter taste of danger that makes it exotic as well as intoxicating at the same time.
I have traveled many miles looking for a place to lay my head until I discovered Jamaica where I found a place to put my bed.
