    Honeymoon question

So it sounds like we are going to Negril for our honeymoon,2weeks

we are set on BCC for the first week and looking for ideas for the last week. Not looking to spend much over $1,000.

we are thinking about sea splash, there is a deal at negrilonestop.com for $149 (tax inc w/ breakfast) for the one room suite. the thing we like about that is we wont have to eat out every single night with the kitchen in the room

my fiancé is friends with a travel agent and she says that since they don't work with TA it sends up a red flag and she wants to find us something else like a AI. we said no ai and that we want to get out and see Jamaica not sit on a beach and eat buffet food that I can get in America.....I want to eat chicken from a oil drum and drink some beers with the locals....not have the people next to us sitting on the beach talk our ear off all week.

for things to do she wants to swim with the dolphins and I would love to rent a car and go see faiths pen for some food. I think we are going to stick to things close to Negril for the rest,if we have extra $ we might do a tour with a guide.

This is our first time in Jamaica, not sure on dates yet but looking like late june

I would not recommend renting a car unless you are good at driving in other countries - they drive on the opposite side of road and have roundabouts.
I would hire a driver - it is cheaper than renting a car for a day and risking an accident!
Also, hit the grocery store at the roundabout. You can make breakfasts in your room, sandwiches for lunch. You will save a ton not eating out 3x, plus Red Stripe and rum is cheaper in your room as well. We still go out a lot, but usually have a few before we do.
You will be in heaven. Do not do an AI. For the extra cost of an AI, you can eat/drink like a king in Negril!

Negril one stop is ABSOLUTELY the place you should contact about rooms. No need for a travel agent.

    They ARE a travel agent!

I applaud you on your research and decision making in regards to places and type of places to stay but I would like to comment a bit on the "renting of a car and go see faiths pen for some food" part.

I know that Anthony Zimmerman thinks that faiths pen is the "bomb" when it comes to "authentic" Jamaican food but, I have been there many times over the past 20 or so years and really don't see much special about the place. Now, if you were staying somewhere around St. Anns I could see going there for a visit but all the way from Negril? I don't think you will be that impressed with the visit other than the beautiful scenery up through Fern Gully etc. There are plenty of "authentic" places to eat Jamaican food closer to Negril and (perhaps) even more authentic as it is Jamaica and they do cook "authentic" Jamaican food all over the island (even occasionally in Negril).

All that being said, enjoy your trip and I agree that foregoing the driving part and hiring a driver would be preferable for a first time visitor.

You might be able to get a good deal at Idle Awhile if you are going in June.

bought the tickets for air, June 12-27. Now just need to pick the places to stay.

was thinking about doing 7/8 split but might do 5/5/5 and take a tour the last day of the 2nd stay and get dropped off in ochi for the last 5 days....would that be too much work? looking at sea splash and bcc for the first 5 night stays not sure on ochi, going to call negrilonestop on Monday.

we are going to scrap the rental idea

    Re: Honeymoon question

If you do a split that includes the Treasure Beach area...it's an easy day trip excursion over to Little Ochie for a meal. We always do a Negril/Treasure Beach split. I'd keep my splits to two though- every time you move it's the packing....riding few hours (which is interesting to see the landscape...) and then unpacking. It takes awhile to sort out a location. It's ALL good though! There is a Treasure Beach forum here and there is also treasurebeach.net. I know Onestop also deal with Treasure Beach because we met them there a few months ago when they were scouting out the properties they work with. There is a verrrry nice spa - the Driftwood at Jakes Place. Have fun
