Trip Number Two: This Wednesday can't come soon enough!
The better always right half and I will be staying at Nirvana in Negril for the second time this coming Wednesday though the following Tuesday. We are both very experienced travelers and Negril is hands down the best vacation we've ever had. It's to the point where we may blow off most places altogether and keep coming back to the land of decompression. I've visited this site frequently and what a tremendous resource it is and the community is beyond what is found in some of the other forums I frequent and moderate. A couple of things that I haven't really been able to get any recent or definitive answers for are:
1. Between the 1st and 7th are there going to be any good shows roll through?
2. Has the status on cigars changed? Or more to the point, is there any place I can find quality sticks that aren't necessarily Cuban, just quality.
3. I'm a huge fan of Appleton but was hoping to get a hold on a bottle of Havana Club 15y/o (not the Bacardi version, actual Cuban) rum. Is this possible and if so where? The only place we are planning on stopping on our way westward is at the Megamart. Am I going to get lucky or am I wasting my time?
4. What's the crowd scene like during the first week of May? We last visited during an October and it felt like we darn near had the place to ourselves.
Thanks for any and all suggestions/help in advance, this is a special trip and really want to maximize the experience. My sister and her beau are joining us and this is mine and my sisters first vacay together since we were kids.
Blessings,
David

Re: Trip Number Two: This Wednesday can't come soon enough!
Hello, we arrive on May 1 as well. It sounds like we have similar interests... Cubans,Havana club 7 year is my house rum and we are huge reggae fans. I posted a question about live music during those dates and someone replied that John Holt & Queen Ifrica were going to be playing at Roots Bamboo on May 4th. I have been to Jamaica once before and I saw very few real Cubans there. Fake Cohibas were everywhere. I bring my own Habanos with me. Some of the Jamaican cigars are not bad. Just 1 more day! Hope you guys have a great trip.

Thanks for the reply Sean! I'll be bringing my own sticks but was actually hoping to come by some of the local sticks. I've already concluded that I'm not even going to worry about Cubans and just hope for a bottle of Havana Club. I usually roll with single malts but when in the islands it's always rum. How long have you been in Plano? I more or less grew up there in the 80's.
Cheers,
David

Hello David, I grew up in the Dallas-Plano area. We really enjoy living in Plano. What part of the country are you in now? You guys staying on the beach in Negril or the cliffs? This will be our 1st time staying in the Cliffs. We're pretty stoked about this trip!

We are on the beach, next trip may involve a few nights on the cliffs but currently we love the location at Nirvana too much to look elsewhere. Currently we are in Austin which is awesome but growing way too fast. I went to Clark and PESH and really loved the area in the mid to late 80's. I did a stint in the service and when I got back five years later it was a totally different place to me.

Re: Trip Number Two: This Wednesday can't come soon enough!
We are typically beach folks, but we needed some down time on this trip. We are staying at Moon Dance Cliffs, so it should be nice and quite there. We actually live a couple blocks away from PESH, what a small world. We love Austin, Magnolia Café is one of our favorite spots to eat down there. Your lucky to live down there, my wife and I always say...that if we moved anywhere in Texas, it would be Austin. I don't know if you guys have plans on Friday the 3rd, but we are doing the One Love Bus Pub Crawl. It looks like a blast and its free (tip the driver). I can forward you some info on the Pub Crawl, if interested? I just packed some Monte Cristo #2s and Partagas Series D #3 Robustos for the trip...one more day!
