    Hi Bnewb,

Thanks for your info!! Don't know how long you've been living in Negril but God Bless You in any event. I've been back to Jamaica twice in last two years. I have friends in Kingston and fly into there. Have done a bit of traveling in Portland (Blue Mountain Peak) and last trip went to Treasure Beach where I haven't been since 1981. Like the whole island it has grown a whole heap mon. Treasure Beach is nice but different from Negril. I haven't seen it but I understand they built a highway from MoBay to Negril. I guess it's a lot faster but that ride from MoBay was always fun for me Lucia, Green Island, Tryall. Kingston has changed a lot too. Did you ever have the chance to take the train from Kingston-MoBay, not that's really Irie. I'll get you some pics soon. Runnings, John

    Bnewb,

Do they still run the Reggae Sunsplash Festival any more? I was lucky enough to see Bob Marley at Jarrett Park, Mobay 79 Sunsplash. Also went in 80 and 81. Pretty amazing. Brought a lot of people to JA during the summer months.

Brimsley was at Roots Bamboo for years & most recently we saw him at Bourbon Beach (the old De Buss) for a stint.
Villas Negril became Chuckles Resort then Sunset Caribbean hotel and is now currently closed.
Spring Break was popular for quite a number of years and started to die down around 2001...the number of spring breakers at that time in Negril were huge and now it's just a sprinkling of kids.

Johng...I think it's time you came back for a visit but I'm looking forward to seeing your old photos!
Bnewb, Just curious since it's been a few years since I was in Negril. I understand that there is a toll highway from Mobay to Negril? Does it come right into town? How long is the ride now?

    Thanks, John

Yes I remember Barry since he was a likkle kid too. Remember Howard and Carl (dread on a bike) and her daughter too. Irie spot for sure. Do you remember Miss Gloria's boyfriend, drove the white car, can't think of his name offhand. I assume the A-frame is long gone too.

Johng...great to know you still get to Jamaica. We love Kingston & spend our vacation time there when we get a chance...

I've been living here full time for a relatively short time...going on 7 years (thus the desire for old pics)...but my "husband" as he's called has been here over 20 years. Rob is the one with the older/past information or my info is provided from our friends/families from around town & also from the great folks on Negril.com!

    Bnewb,

Lucky for you!! If you want to see what Negril Beach looked like in the 60's get your hands on the Walt Disney movie 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. There is a scene were Kirk Douglas comes ashore from the submarine in a rowboat filmed at Negril Beach. He is subsequently chased back to the submarine by savages with spears. I talked many years ago to a gentleman who lived on Negril Beach named Lazarus Reynolds who said that when they were filming the movie the production company had a sailboat moored right off the beach and every day / night after shooting they would carry young Negril ladies out to the boat and have unbelievable parties. You will see if you get your hands on the movie have different it was. Take care, John
