    Hi Captaind,

Probably know you from days gone by. I used to stay at Gloria's 2-3 times a year from 75-81. And yes I remember the A-frame well. Funny story about that, I turned some friends on to Negril and we stayed in the A-frame maybe 5 of us. I told everybody not to store any ganja inside for the sake of no problems. Well one guy had a bag in the pocket of his bluejeans that he left next to the bed when he crashed. Next morning he found that a rat had chewed a hole in his jeans and made of off with his stash. Yes mon

Johng...great to know you still get to Jamaica. We love Kingston & spend our vacation time there when we get a chance...

I've been living here full time for a relatively short time...going on 7 years (thus the desire for old pics)...but my "husband" as he's called has been here over 20 years. Rob is the one with the older/past information or my info is provided from our friends/families from around town & also from the great folks on Negril.com!

    Bnewb,

Lucky for you!! If you want to see what Negril Beach looked like in the 60's get your hands on the Walt Disney movie 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. There is a scene were Kirk Douglas comes ashore from the submarine in a rowboat filmed at Negril Beach. He is subsequently chased back to the submarine by savages with spears. I talked many years ago to a gentleman who lived on Negril Beach named Lazarus Reynolds who said that when they were filming the movie the production company had a sailboat moored right off the beach and every day / night after shooting they would carry young Negril ladies out to the boat and have unbelievable parties. You will see if you get your hands on the movie have different it was. Take care, John

Oh Man The Soon Come club is part of my 1st ever night in Negril - March/1978 - Me & 4 buddies went to Negril for 1st time and were to stay at La Mar cottage but it was much smaller then and Harris could not fit all 5 in. So we stayed a night at a cottage on Westland Mountain Road. Two of us walked into town in pitch black (No street lights then) met a guy who offered us a Sub ride and then took us to the Soon Come Club. The Bartender kept talking to us and we could not understand a word of his heavy patois - Obviously as the only 2 white guys in the club on our 1st night ever in Jamaica - We glowed in the dark we were so pale ! He was offering us whatever we needed but we kept saying "Excuse me or I beg your pardon!" Too Funny ! I remember the Bakery in the plaza too for some great patties & Coco bread and there was the Original Cambio across from it and the original branch of NCB was in there too. The grocery store entrance was from inside the plaza in those days too with no where near the selection you see now.!

That train from MoBay to Kingston stopped running in 1992? There is a new train that was being tested around St. Andrew -St Catherine area though I haven't heard much about it since it began.
