    Greetings jesswade,

I live in Jamaica for the late summer through the winter and, although there is always a possiblility of a hurricane, never let it spoil my plans. I don't live in Negril but rather deep in the mountainous Cockpits but the advice is still the same. In fact, I was at home for Sandy last year but not much damage where I lived and almost nothing in Negril I hear.

The best thing about a Hurricane (hard to find a lot of "best things" about one) is that you know of it's advance many days before it gets there. Enough time to make advance plans if needed. Also, most structures are made of reinforced concrete and can withstand a tremendous force of wind.

I love the late summer-fall time and wouldn't let a thought of a possible hurricane ruin the vibe.

Dont worry about it. Jamaica was hit by a storm last year. The chances of it getting hit again in back to back years is remote :-D. The chances of it hitting during your stay is even less.

Take a look at some trip insurance just in case.

I prefer that time. Very laid back and quiet with fewer people. And flights and hotels are cheaper. Fortunately, I always seemed to arrive either right after or before a big storm. But I always take out travel insurance...just in case

Mi Lady and I were in Negril for Sandy last year and fortunately for us it stayed on the east side of the island. We held down 2 bar stools so that they were secure.

Certainly hurricanes can spawn during late September and early October; but there is a vast ocean out there and there are two chances of a storm getting close to Negril and disrupting your trip - slim and none.

We have reached the past 5 Octobers and only had to deal with the very western portion of Sandy. The weather can be rainier than summer, since it is the rainy season. But the rain is still warm and there are plenty of places to hole up and ride out the rain and meet some new friends.
