    Cool How's The Weather?

    Hello everyone!

My wife and I are long time beach walkers but newbies to the "Board". In fact, up untill our last stay (in April/May) I had heard the term "boardies" many times but never knew what it was. (I have to admit, as dumb as this might sound, I thought it had something to do with surfing) But now, thanks to some of our "new friends", we learned a little more about it.

I'm hoping I can get a little help from some of the long timers or residents. Although we have stayed in Negril several times, it has usually only been in late December or around April/May. We were thinking about changing it up this year but have questions about the weather.

We love the temps in late April and the water is always perfect. When we stay in December we have noticed that the temps are more mild (which is fine) but the water seems much cooler. We want to try and stay sometime around October/November this year. I know it's toward the end of stormy season, but I don't know if that has any effect on the weather and/or water temperature. Any info would be much appreciated.

Oct/Nov: ocean warmer (it's been warming all summer), some major storms can churn it up, make it cooler but generally warmer than say April. Temps can be very nice, not as cool as Dec/Jan so don't need that night time sweater! As for rain and major storms it's hit or miss, you can get a great week or a stormy one, you can get sea weed and 10 foot waves or none! We think the + outweigh the -s. OH, biggey is price, Oct/Nov is on summer rates!, hotels cheaper and not many closed as say in the summer.

Thanks Lulu and Al for the quick response. Very helpful. I figured the weather might be a bit " hit or miss" but I see there's quite a few on the November roll call already so it can't be that big of a risk.

We have stayed in April/May the last 7 years in a row and have had a total of 1 bad day due to weather, so I might be getting a little spoiled with the perfect conditions.

    Thanks again!

    Re: How's The Weather?

We have always gone in November, since it coincides with our anniversary, and have been about 10 times over the last 15 years. Weather is fantastic, ditto on the hit or miss storms. In all the years we have gone there was only one bad storm that pushed the water past our building at CSA for one day, but the water was back to normal after a long day and the sea weed was picked up quickly. The plus side was there were treasures to be found all along the beach, ie full intact sea shells that you rarely find on the beach. Rates are excellent, some of the beach vendors can get a little pushy but they have just gone through a very slow time as travel is down during the height of hurricane season,. Go and enjoy.
