This past week we took a few days off to circumnavigate the island and saw many incredible sights. But the most amazing was our stop at Port Royal in Kingston. Thanks to the fact we made a wrong turn which caused us to arrive about 40 minutes later than we expected, we arrived at Port Royal at 11:30 or so. We made our way to Fort Charles for their tour and the guide thanked us for taking time out off our trip to visit Port Royal on the 321st Anniversary of the 1692 earthquake which destroyed over half of the town. Then, looking at her watch, she told us that we were there at the exact minute that earthquake struck - 11:43am.
This was a total fluke as none of us had taken the time to even check the date of the earthquake let alone the time. But what an incredible experience it was.
Below is a picture of the famous Giddy House that was upset by the 1907 earthquake that struck once again in Port Royal.
For those folks who lived in Port Royal during those years, the "good ole days" were obviously not so good... (grin)
