    Thanks to the volunteers!

When Weathermon, Mi Lady and some others volunteered at St. Anthony's Kitchen a few months back they posted a list of needs that Ms. Pearl had. One was an egg lifter. Anyone remember the exchanges after that--trying to figure that out. We learned it was a spatula! Well, spatulas and tongs and the long awaited FOOD PROCESSOR arrivbed this morning. Thanks to Johnathon, his wife Kattie and his parents, Julie and Randy who got up early this morning and were awaiting my pick-up at 7:00 a.m. In addition, they carried some school supplies for the children. Upon our arrival they were greeted by a couple dozen kids having breakfast and preparing tohead off to school. Thanks to each of you for your kindness this morning and for your work in starting lunch and doind dishes. Johnathan found St. Anthony's Kitchen here on the message board.

If you want to volunteer at the Kitchen in the early morning for the kids or in the late morning for adults let us know--or just show up. Our sights are now on the new school year beginning in September. We have 40 children to outfit with uniforms, shoes, backpacks (book bags) and other supplies. You are welcome to help. Peace and all good! --Fr. Jim

P.S. Tomorrow, the 13th, is the Feast of St. Anthony, patron of our Kitchen.

Dear M&G Montreal, in many countries he is the patron of finding a marriage partner too. He is most famous for his preaching and his work on behalf of the poor. It is not an accident that it is called St. Anthony's Kitchen. Today I have the baptism of little twin girls here at Mary Gate of Heaven. They are from Brasil (the family is gatheringin Negril for a wedding) and the girls were born on St. Anthony's Feast. Nice co-incidence. Peace and all good! --Fr. Jim

Do the children in Jamaica attend school all year round? Is breakfast served to them if school is not in session? What about weekends?

I guess the real question is, "What is the soup kitchen's hours of operation (breakfast and lunch) and what time can volunteers be there to help?"

    From a previous post:

The Kitchen is on Nompriel road (the road to Sav) and is just beyond the taxi park and before you get to Sweet Spice--left side of the road. Right now we have a lot of school supplies. How about getting some inexpensive flip-flops. We cannot keep them around. People need footware all the time. Or a couple pair of shoes for school, sizes around 8, 9, 10. Or some used clothing if you have room in the luggage or new clothes--maybe for kids. We would love to have you help at the Kitchen. We are open Mon - Fri and best time to be there is 11:30 to about 1:00. If you are an early bird you can get there about 6:30 or 7:00 and help get breakfast ready for the children--we feed about 40 of them on their way to school.

We are ecstatic that the food processor was donated! Ms Pearl should be absolutely delighted. Thank you so much Johnathon, Kattie, Julie, and Randy.

Weathermom & Mi Lady are correct with the hours of operation and days of the week, thank you for responding It's a team effort and we are St. Anthony's Kitchen appreciate ANY type of help!

As Fr. Jim said earlier in this thread, we are still in need of back packs for the upcoming school year. Most schools are finished by the end of June and resume again the first week of September.

    Blessings to all who help!

No problem mon. Mrs pearl had us clean and sweep the entire stock room. They showed us how to cook breadfruit and gave us a plate to eat. It was a very different experience that we hope to do again when we come back to negril next year. The kitchen is almost across the street from the police station if you want to go. I will post pictures when I get home on the 16th.
