Asking what the place was called is one thing and a perfectly fine question. It used to be Ocean Edge and closed about a decade ago. This is common knowledge.
But you were not "just wondering what the place was" as you just stated. You did ask who currently owns it, who currently lives there and why it is not being developed. That is where the privacy line was crossed. All private property owners do deserve certain privacy when it comes to their own property and they will receive it on Negril.com. If your Dad owned property here he would be granted the same respect regarding privacy.
To think of it another way, say for instance a friend invited me to your town for a vacation. I happened to be walking down your street and got curious about a particular house that seemed unusual to me for whatever reason. Let's assume for argument's sake it is your house. So I took a picture of the house that I was curious about which happened to be your house.
Would you and your Dad think it would appropriate for me to post on your hometown website questions like who owns the house, who lives in the house and why arent they doing more to improve the house? Something tells me that you already know that this would be inappropriate. If not, just ask Dad.
I am pretty sure this "sort of line" applies everywhere, not just Negril or Jamaica. Asking the previous name of a place is one thing, but there is a reasonable expectation of privacy that should be respected everywhere, and especially in a tourist town when the property in question has no tourism related significance anymore.
Like I said, just come on down and enjoy yourself as a tourist.
If there is something of real historical or tourism significance, most times you will find it marked with a sign and someone will be charging you admission... (grin)
