I take some 1 and 5 dollar bills out of my wallet every day and put them in my "Jamaica wallet".
Get up, do my job, collect money. Repeat ad nauseum until the next trip.
The way I save is by not returning as often ....
We have a free checking account that is separate from all other accounts. This is our vacation fund.
We stopped going out to dinner (big bucks) and go to lunch or out for pizza instead
We do not buy birthday, anniversary or Christmas presents for each other
Save all change and deposit in vacation account
Luckily we both hate to shop so we don't spend a lot of money on "stuff"
We pay credit cards in full when due but use the ones that give us cash back. This cash goes in the fund.
Dividend checks, tax refunds, etc go in the account
Recently lessened our cable service to save $$$$
Changed Car & Property Insurance Company to save $$$$
Thinking about getting rid of the land line phone and just having cell phones. Not sure about this one. What do you all think about that?
I agree! When I retired, I started looking closely at our monthly bills. Amazing just how much we were spending on a land line! As we say in the medical field, duplication of services for sure. S--- canned the land line and haven't missed it at all! For myself, just got a tracfone which meets my needs nicely. Luckily, good cell reception around our area is good.
Like a few boardies said..cook at home...no gifts for us on B'day's, etc...(of course we still get our kids and grandchildren gifts)...if any tax refund, it goes in the vacation fund too! Truly does add up quickly. And last but not least...if the rates to fly are too high or more than we would like, JUST STAY LONGER!!!![]()
