    Going to church in jamaica.

anyone go when you come here?. Are the local churches receptive of outsiders?. what denominations are prevelant on the island?. Is there sabbath school here?.These are questions i really should go out and answer myself, I just think at this point in my life it may be away to feel the love of this country and its beautiful people even deeper. Is there any favorite churches you attend on the island?.Any ministers, preachers that are unique or characters?.Do have any stories about churches here?. i remember francine took my friends from tx one sunday a few yrs back and they loved it!. with everything thats happened in the last week or so i think its time for a knee mail. bless.

    Morning Tattoo,

The church I know of is called Mary Gate of Heaven. It's a Catholic church and the priest there is called Fr. Jim Bok. I know Fr. Bok personally and can say that he is not only a wonderful priest but he's a very kind, generous and has a fun loving spirit This is church involved with St. Anthony's Soup Kitchen, Get Kids to School program, Wise Choice Tutoring.... among others! They do an amazing job helping those less fortunate in the community.

I have heard many visitors say they make a point of going to this church to hear Fr. Bok's sermon. I highly recommend attending!
The church is located on the Beach Road directly across from Coco-la-Palm. Sunday service is at 10am. I believe there are also services at 8am Monday - Thursday.

    Have a blessed day!

I go to Mary Gate of Heaven when I'm on the island. I have gone to a church in Clifton. They have all denominations on the island and church is no problem.

Father Jim welcomes any and all visitors. We go to mass everytime we are in Negril. Matter of fact in February we renewed our vows of 25 years during mass! It was awesome! I couldn't think of any other place to do that.

I am not Catholic and I would still go to Mary Gate of Heaven. Fr. Jim is a great guy and does great work for the kids of Negril!

Here is an old trip report about church in Jamaica. We now regularly attend the Church in Strath Bogie while in Negril and get a warm reception from the Pastor and congregation when we arrive. I asked Pastor Cooper if he knew of any like minded Baptist churches in Green island or Lucea and am waiting to hear back from him. While in Treasure Beach we found another church (with Pastor Coopers help) and that is hte second trip report.

    Regards,
    Bob

We went to the Negril United Church, it is up the hill from the bank that is across from Burger King. Very small church but we really enjoyed it. A very nice service

Dear Tattoo, I am Fr. Jim at the Catholic Church, Mary Gate of Heaven. Just want to say hello and let you now that you are most welcome her at our church. Many visitors pass through our beautiful little church. Our hospitality is second to none. And, I have enjoyed reading the nice compliments about me and our church. We are just staying busy with building the Kingdom here in our little part of the world.

Negril is a small town and there are probably 40 churches here--I'm serious! Big ones, little ones--and just about any denomination you might want. I can't speak for any of them but I can say you are welcome at MGH! Peace and all good to you. --Fr. Jim
